Allen Park — Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was "dead tired" as he watched last Saturday night's game between the Cowboys and Jets. Then, in the second quarter, he suddenly had a good reason to stay up.

Former Lions quarterback Kellen Moore played in an NFL game for the first time in his career after replacing Dallas starter Matt Cassel. When Stafford saw the change, he said he exchanged excited text messages with Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.

Among the text messages: "He's in!"

"I'm fired up," Stafford said. "I was texting (Moore) a bunch and happy for him."

Now in his fourth season, Moore finished the game 15-of-25 for 158 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Considering the circumstances against a good Jets defense, Stafford thought Moore played well.

Great story. And yet it took us until we were out of it to play him. A guy that's been in the system for years and probably knows the offense as much as Romo. Great job JG! Now that we are out of it. He could have one at least 1-2 games at the minimum IMO.

i hope moore plays well but we lose and of course the skins lose today. Then I want to beat them next week and crush their playoff hopes.

It's cool to see how much Lions fans and players love him. When Moore went in last week the Lions subreddit was so happy for him.

Another example of JG not having the peanuts to make a change.

I am happy for Moore but let's see him play first. Cassel gave us some hope after his first game as well.

I am sure you can develop an article about how good Ryan Leaf is based on former teammates. I know you can on Cassel.

I would rather see Moore have an opportunity to play and grow rather than watch a has been and never was like Cassel. Cassel is who we thought he was. No one is breaking out the anointing oil over Moore but the kid should have been given a chance before Weeden or Cassel.

I don't disagree at all. I hope he lights it up but an article like this doesn't say a lot. I can find a couple people to say stuff about me but trust me, I'm a real slimeball.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It was a pretty bizarre puff piece that just seems weird coming from a Detroit paper for a third string QB that never took a meaningful snap for them.

For me when all the team mates are cheering for you [after you have left the team]
that speaks leadership. This is a high character guy now lets see him play ball.

JG takes his time making changes at the QB position like most coaches
