Have it on good authority that #Lions would have taken Tyron Smith had #Cowboys traded from 9 to 16, not N Fairley. Jerry Jones got his man.

So Tyron straight up? Or say Castanzo and Mike Leshoure

Heres who was taken after 49
Ben Ijalana, Marcus Gilchrist, Da'Quan Bowers, Marvin Austin, Stephen Paea, Jaiquawn Jarrett, Rodney Hudson, Shane Vereen, Brandon Harris Marcus Gilbert, Randall Cobb, Dontay Moch, and Justin Houston

Ill take the potential all-pro LT but theres some good names there

We did the right thing taking Smith at 9. I knew there was no way Detroit would pass on him. Their QBs get injured every freaking year!

I agree completely that we did the right thing picking Smith at 9. He has everything (including intangibles) that a pro bowl OL needs and more. I can't imagine him not being a monster on the line very, very quickly.

I'm tired of getting the second or third best at a position. Finally we got the best, blue-chip player and I'm thrilled.

i think we did the right thing because you really have no idea how it will play out so you take the sure thing

if that is how it will play out, one might consider costanzo and hudson or costanzo and ijalana

this way you have your RT and RG/C already set and still take carter or whoever you want at 40

I still would have traded back given this situation. I like Free at LT for the next 6-8 years. Smith is certainly a superb talent physically, but I think there were several prospects that could make a solid RT in this draft. Castonzo, Rahim Moore, Bruce Carter, and Murray in rounds 1-3 would have been very nice in my opinion. Don't have any major problems with how the draft went so I'm not going to dwell on it.

No way I settle for tier 2 tackle when I can have a tier 1 tackle.

As for Rahim Moore, I think he is overhyped on this board. The guy is tall and lanky with minimal muscle mass. I would liken him to Patrick Watkins in body style when we drafted him. He has some pass coverage skills, but he will be a liability in run coverage.

The Cowboys didn't select him, because he wasn't even close to being best available. I think Denver reached on him because they need secondary players. Their entire defense was putrid last year. (as was ours, but not for the same reason)

Castonzo and Sherrod are 2nd teir to Smith on which way? Potential, absolutely. But I think they are interchangable in terms of asking them to play RT right now. Just my opinion of course.

And a cover 1st FS is exactly what we need. I'm sick of seeing our corners get beat deep because there's no help over the top. Moore had a 2nd round grade by pretty much everyone too. He was by far the best S in the draft. Run stopping is not at all what I'm worried about in our safties, we need help in coverage very badly.

exactly rahim moore will get ran over just like alan ball did vs ryan torrain:lmao: he is just too small to be a safety especially if he has to make tackles.

aaron williams was the number 1 safety on our board...lol....I'm glad we didnt get rahim he is small and slow not a good combination.

Of all the tackles, the only one I think that has even a chance of being a Pro Bowl tackles is Smith. As I said in the first post. Why would you draft something that will remain status quo, when you could land a pro bowl LT? While a few of them have a little more polish than Smith, Smith could easily end up being a better tackle this season. I don't think there is any doubt he will outclass all of them in two years and it won't even be debatable.

He (Rahim Moore) may have been the best (classified) safety in the draft, but that is because this safety draft class blew goats. I think there were other players that will be safeties that were a lot better than Moore was.

While he had some coverage skills, WRs, TEs, and RBs in the NFL are going to push him around. Rahim has no gurth and lacks any real muscle. When he tries to stop a power back, it's going to get ugly.

Exactly. Aaron Williams will be a better safety than Rahim. Hell, I think Prince and Peterson will end up playing safety too and they will be FAR better than Rahim! (Well, unless they get Peterson to slim down about 10lbs or so to stay at CB)

...I live in Michigan and the Lions were in love with Smith. They didn't really hide their affection for the guy.
