Lions WR Charles Rogers admitted testing positive for marijuana, forcing the NFL to suspend him four games during the 2006 season.

Well, it makes more sense now that an NFL team didn't try to sign Rogers and polish him up more quickly. We're not certain whether Rogers has to be on a NFL team to fulfill the suspension or whether he's already served his time. Rogers was also suspended four games for marijuana use in 2005.

Surprise, surprise. He also added a little water to his pee pee during a mandatory drug test at the NFL combine. I wonder what that was for.

Amazing that a guy with so much talent could turn out to be such a doofus.

Big deal. There are probably a lot more players that smoke pot too.

But why smoke it when you know your career is on the line? Supposedly pot is not addictive, so it's just pure stupidity when guys do this knowing they're going to be tested. It's not worth it.

I'd rather make millions than smoke weed. I don't understand how someone who has so much can flush it all down the drain to smoke some leaves.

You probably haven't tried it then. Not that I'd make Chuck's choices.

I guess he and Jeff Smoker spent plenty of time together off the field at Michigan State. Watching Rogers mail it in the last game or two of his final year in East Lansing should have told you every thing you needed to know about his work ethic and maturity.

He's on the Rashaan Salaam plan for career success.

Plenty of time to try it after retirement, which is usually in the early to mid 30's for a football player, and 55 for an average Joe like me.

It just isn't worth it when so much money is on the line.

I just don't understand why the league cares so much about marijuana but so little about alcohol or pain killers.

I'd stay straight so long as some team was willing to pay me, then never draw another straight breath, starting the day I retired...

By then, if I was any good, I'd be able to afford the GOOOOOOD stuff... I might even become Nate Newton's best customer... :D

More seriously, if the guy can't even be trusted to discipline himself to put the bong down long enough to have an NFL career, how can you trust him to put in the necessary work to get game-ready, both physically and mentally??

Instead of hitting the weight room, he's liable to be down at the Baskin-Robbins, feeding the muchies... instead of studying film, he's liable to be kickin' back at home...

I wouldn't take a chance on him, not any more... if he prefers weed to the NFL, don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya...

ive always felt like dallas likes to take chances on players so I wouldnt be surprised if we brought him in 1 day, think about it we always try to sign a high risk low price player. Well not as much now but back in the day, alonzo spellman, ryan leaf, quentin coryatt(sp). What would it hurt?

Well, what about the circus show and distractions around the team? We have enough already with TO.

First of all because those things are legal.

I don't understand how an athlete can abuse any of the 3. It's stupid to jeopardize your career with any of them, IMO. Feeling a buzz just isn't that damned important.

Anyone who thinks it's no big deal that these guys do a little weed is simply delusional. It's easy for some to say it's no big deal. We aren't gambling with millions of dollars. It's fine for an office or construction worker to risk his job on a high. Quite another thing for an athlete who makes millions. Just plain ignorance.

I've tried it several times, and honestly you can generally get a better buzz from alcohol. It should be legal, but that's another story. Rogers, OTOH, blew the chance of a lifetime because of stupidity.

What that shows is that the guy cannot be counted on- when the pressure is on, people like that will let you down every time.

Why wasn't he suspended for the year? Isn't that the progresson? First you get fined, then you get the 4 game suspension, then you get the year long suspension. Not two 4 game suspensions. Did the Lions cut him knowing he failed a test, a la the Cowboys and Carter?

Also, I don't understand when players aren't on any team, how they are fulfilling the suspension. If they get signed again, then the suspension should start taking place. It is the sacrice the team should be taking for signing that player. If he isn't good enough to be on a roster, then how can you say that he is meeting the suspension requirements. I am not good enough to be on a roster, does that count toward my suspension.
