Just my opinion guys but you're pushing that rationalization a little. Them tuning in is nowhere near the millions of dollars spent by beer companies to advertise. That was the original point.

Here's the thing. You may not gamble, but I do....so my sunday works something like this, when the Boys aren't on, or are on commercial.

1. Check games that I have involved in parlays or straight bets. Normally, I would never flick the Ticket to OAK-SF - but sunday, I've got the 49ers laying 3 and a hook. I'm tuning in. This probably affects quite a few people who are betting on games, who don't have sunday ticket. With no action, they may just go work on the house. Action - you're tuned in.

We weren't saying it's a huge percentage, but that audience is there.

Maybe gamblers would tune in regardless, but I'm sure there is some portion of the population that watches these games because they've got some action.
That's a good point, and the faster they can be reformed into fantasy league owners, the better for the league.

Yeah but when you think about it.... those who do gamble would probably be watching some football game anyway. People usually don't gamble weekly on football if they don't watch the games or don't know anything about football.

Yes, I do gamble on occasion and know what you are saying. But to compare the gambling to alcohol ads is a bit of a reach.

Let me put it this way. Fox, CBS, NBS, & ESPN all have pregame shows. How come the gambling lines aren't a regular feature on those shows given they know gamblers tune in to the games?

I suspect the answer is pretty obvious.

I want it all.

On sunday, I look like a hyperactive monkey. Flying through sunday ticket, checking my cash-league fantasy team (2-2.....SCREW YOU CARSON PALMER!!!) and keeping track of my bets.

It's exhausting.

So you're saying no one who is high on grass ever gets in a fight?

I doubt that very seriously given that I know my 2 brothers personally. Idiots are idiots even when they are mellow.

i see drunk people get into fights all the time as i'm about and about in the local music scene. i see drunk people go out to parking lots to smoke and combine the two. but i've never seen someone only on pot go out of their way to cause a problem or get into a fight. now if it was the alcohol or something *before* they went and smoked that made 'em come back in and tackle people i'm not sure - but on weed alone i seriously doubt it. can it happen? sure - i've just never seen it.

then again i've never seen anyone on pot do just about anything the "anti-pot-coalition" says they do on tv. except for sit around and waste their lives as it does make you more lazy.

reefer maddness - the most incorrect statement of a proposed problem ever created that i've ever witnessed.

It won't affect many games. But snoozers like Indy-Ten and OAK-SF? Maybe they're shown in your area, you don't have the ticket, and you're a degenerate - you're tuning in. :)

We have? I honestly don't remember.

So, you're telling me Charles Rogers has either Glaucoma of is undergoing chemotherapy huh? Or that he obtained his through a prescription for it at the very least. That's your stance?

You made the point that the league cares about pot b/c it is illegal and doesn't care about alcohol or pain killers because they are legal. I noted that marijuana is legal for medical use in many states. I wasn't in any way suggesting that Rogers had his via prescription. Just correcting what I saw as an incorrect claim.

BTW, marijuana can be prescribed for a ton of things other than chemo or glaucomoa.

If not, then why not just admit what we both know is the truth, he's abusing the drug contrary to the laws of this country. This isn't about should the laws be changed. It's about they are what they are and he has millions of dollars riding upon what he does.

And if you take painkillers that are not prescribed to you, try to get multiple prescriptions from several doctors, etc. then you are also abusing the drug contrary to the laws of the country. We agree on that -- but the league has no way to test that.

As far as I am aware, current and former NFL players have two primary substance abuse problems. Alcohol and pain killers (steroids for current, but not former players as well). Yet both are OK-dokey in the league's eyes and widely used. Seems like if you have a drug policy that includes a treatment portion that you should focus most strongly on the substances that the players are abusing.

But isn't Sunday Ticket a flat rate? You're not paying more for the Indy-Ten or OAK-SF games. they're on your TV anyway. Whether you watch those games or not, you've paid for it.

As for the network games, they usually don't play the boring games and if they do and it becomes a blowout, then they take you to a more interesting game oftentimes. And those, like myself, who don't have Sunday Ticket are gong to watch any NFL game if it's on the networks.

i had the ticket for 2-3 years while i was heavy into FFL. i dropped it this last year and so far don't really miss it. i get enough of what i need immediately online and if a game is boring, i now find other things to do. like drug studies in modern sports. : )

I'm with you... If you live in the market of your favorite team there really is no need for Sunday Ticket IMO.

I don't watch any of the pre-game shows any more. Stopped several years ago. Not the point, but I do remember ESPN having a segment where they mentioned the line in a few of the games. Do they not do that anymore? It was Hank Goldberg, I think. Just curious.

That's why I said people who don't have it. If SF-OAK is the only game on, you might be inclined to do something else. Action? You're tuning in.

Actually, you get the game you're scheduled, regardless of score. A boys fan in the Bay area this week is screwed.

You probably haven't tried it then. Not that I'd make Chuck's choices.

It really isn't, I know plenty of people (me included) that just stopped when they were ready too.

Actually people die in accidents on a regular basis where marijuana is the cause.

And he wants to make it legal.
