List of Viable FA options to consider

We released Ware. We're looking for the room now as opposed to later obviously.

This is one free agency that a lot of good vet players are becoming available due to the majority of teams looking to get younger and more cap conscious. Everyone is depending more on the draft.

Our FO seems to be looking at things that same way. I'm one that believes that's a good thing whether fans believe in this so called cap crunch we're in is forcing it upon the organization or not.

FA has stories going both good and bad. Seahawks FA last season was good. They got value on guys like Bennett and Avril. They paid heavy for a game day difference maker in Harvin but it paid off in the championship game. Will probably be the case next season as well if he can stay healthy.

I believe if we stay patient, there are quite a list of players that can add value to this team and if supplemented by a good draft get us back to being a legitimate playoff team. Cap situation present and future.

There's the obvious names that look to prospectively add value at a viable price for their age group/level of play. Health permitting should fit our system:

Henry Melton (DT)
Linval Joseph (DT)
Clinton MacDonald (DT)
Wesley Woodyard (OLB)
Lamar Houston (DE)
Malcolm Jenkins (S)
Walter Thurmond (CB)
Zane Beadles (OG)
Anthony Collins (OT)
Danario Alexander (WR)

I take into consideration that we are not going to resign Hatcher, Ware's gone after testing the market and it doesn't matter if we resign Spencer cheap or not. Miles Austin is a June 1st cut and we cut Parnell and Orton for more cap space.

Players I know will help this team and want but will cost:

Jairus Byrd (S)
Micheal Johnson (DE)

If Chris Johnson gets cut I want to look at him.

All insight appreciated.

Lol! You mean we can't sign each and every one?

We are going to sign 3 defensive lineman. We basically have no choice. There's nobody to play.

Any interest in Thomas DeCoud? Obviously his performance dropped last year which is why he was cut, but he is still only 28 and was a Pro Bowler with 6 INTs in 2012. Our glaring need in the secondary is we don't have people with ball skills. If he can reclaim his 2012 form our safties would be a strength. He would be affordable if nothing else.

What's it going to be then, eh?

All are gone. You might want to revise your personal wish list.

You might be a little concerned when you do.

I have no desire to waste money on a safety.

I do not like our talent there, but I would rather not take what little money we have and put it for a safety when we have dire needs on the DL.

We currently have decent cap space but as someone earlier mentioned, there's not much DL talent available. I agree though, DL is #1 priority and personally think Melton should be the #1 target, but that doesn't mean we can go looking at other affordable upgrades. I'm just interested to if Decloud would be an upgrade as well as being affordable.

Yeah I'd bank on the fact he had a bad 2013 season and get him for cheaper than the Delmas signing.

Looks like a rough Christmas.

Not one from the wish list yet.

Not looking like I'm gonna get 1 wish granted either.

Romo is gonna get payed extremely well to lose with no support from the defensive side the next 2-3 seasons if you ask me.

Cause we have him the FO can sell hope for the season as a karate during bivouac rebuilding years.

Lol, we had the worst defense ever with injured players and didn't focus on that side of the ball. To think we can't finish better next year is crazy to me.

Reminds me of this boards crying about the o-line last year. How'd that work out??

We drafted Frederick who everyone hated who is only looking like our Center for the next decade in his first year, Ron Leary and Mack got better, and Doug settled in at RT to create the best run blocking line in football.

And they still won't eat crow!

I would not put a penny towards Melton and I would suspect that he is not the kind of guy we would want on this team. With his recent biting issue, I would say he is a dirt bag with an injury history. No thanks.

Exactly, I'm listening to the opening drive on my way to work and you'd think we cut ware at 25 y.o and hatcher was Warren Sapp in his prime lol.

Draft donald, sign some fatboys with rushing skill and our line is better than last year's. Ware is not a 43 end!! Why do people let their hate for us blind them as to not see the truth??? See how hatcher looks with no one being doubled on the foreskins line and then talk to me.

We have to bare this doom and gloom crap out and trust rod. Its the 3 day of free agency and people are acting like the sky is falling lol, they did the same to Baltimore last year and Ozzie got dumervil and Smith and the ravens d was a strength again.

I hate the off-season......

What's up with Shaun Phillips? Think he'd come for cheap, just as a stopgap.

Wares cut gives us roughly 7 1/2 million to use in FA
Thats about 9 million we could use.

Now think about this..... We could actually fill Ware's role with Jared Allen. Same age gotta expect you will get about the same production from both (Allen 11.5 sacks last year but hasnt missed a game in years) (Ware has only missed 3) so basically the same production.
But I think we could get Allen for 4-5 million

Which would leave you 4-5 million to go after another vet.
Two Vets we could likely get with that. Melton who would allow us to go BPA in the draft

OR

If you are worried about Melton's health Steve Smth is about to be released ..... which would make us one of the best offenses in football. So if the defense still stinks atleast you know we have the fire power to hang with any team in the league

Well we're talking 1 whole side of the ball that needs to be fixed.

Not only 1 facet of the offense.

There's no way we can rebuild this defense in 1 year.

We've been trying to build our o-line up for 3 years now and we're still not finished.

The defense, especially the line will probably take just as long.

So far there's nothing to suggest that we have more talent on the defense than we did last year.
