I'm ready for some preseason so I can see if the hype on some of these guys is legit.

I'm excited by the youth of this squad. There's a lot of negative vibes surrounding this team lately, but I don't see a group devoid of talent, just experience. I love that the attitude of this team originates from the offensive line. Bill Parcells used to preach that if you had a tough workmanlike offensive line, that attitude reverberated through the rest of the team. I see that team-building intangible starting to develop within this group. When you hear of a young guy on the DL doing well, you don't have to wonder whether the praise is genuine. They aren't going up against Frank Costa anymore. When Ryan Russell beats Tyron Smith in a one-on-one drill, he beat one of, if not the best in the NFL at his position. That stuff matters in a big way. It makes the young guys tougher ... quicker. I'm excited.

The other side of that though is we see a similar group of young guys every year and we're lucky if they ever eventually do much so we'll see.

The thing I like about a lot of these guys is they have prototype size and speed.

Yeah, there aren't any slam dunks here. What I believe we are witnessing is the development of depth before our very eyes. Guys like Russell, Irving, and Tapper may not be world beaters on their own. But I think before it's over this could be a very solid 8 man rotation.

I haven't heard a peep about Benson Mayowa, the guy we got from the raiders....what is up with him?

He's just a guy that's why. lol I never get into what I hear about in tc. Almost never translates into the regular season anyway.

Yeah this happens year after year. A list of guys who look great and either never get on the field or get cut.

That being said, i'd rather see them show something now than not at all. It has to start somewhere.

Well, Parcells should have not continuously drafted injured scrubs then.
I find thatI quote to be very intresting. Im a huge Parcells fan. However, if he had a weakness, an Achiles Heal, I would say it was his inability to properly evaluate offensive line talent. He would draft them with high picks and only half pf them would pan out.

Even if he did draft a good one, he wouldnt recognize that and cut them. When they ended up on different teams they would develop. I saw it when je was HC on the Giants, Patriots, and Cowboys.

His expertise was in drafting defensive front 7 for a traditional 3-4'defense.

Back to the Cowboys.....

This makes sense, focusing on the young players already in camp instead of stressing on "holes". We dont know what they have yet and never judge a young player by a previous season, young players get better.with experience and the right system.

When you try to fill a need by trading or signing a veteran there are several negative consequences:

1. You lose a substantial amount.of cap space, future draft value.or both.

2. You were probably forced to overpay which means you will less likely receive productuvity equal to what is expected by his salary and cap hit.

3. He is pretty much the annointed starter due to his contract and that stagnates competition and decreases motivation among the rest of the squad.

4. His presense decreases opportunity for younger players thus slowing their development and potential to perhaps be as good as the high price veteran.

I think we will see drastic improvement by many 2nd to 4th year players along the defensive backfield, running game, and TE's.
