1) QB - Is there a reason why Brad Johsnon is still on the roster?

Probably contractual, not sure, but if thats the case, as soon as the date arrived that he could be cut, he better be.

I dont care that he is the only back-up other than Bollinger.

Any backup available in the league, or UDFA would be an upgrade.

IMO, the number one priority going into FA this season should be going after a JT O'Sullivan / Fitzpatrick type to not only come in an back up, but potentially compete.

Romo knew that there was nobody on this roster that he had to worry about, maybe thats half his problem.

Somebody that can come in here that doesn't share his "gunslinger" mentality might be the answer. Someone that if need be, can actually drive the offense playing small ball.

Actually hitting short routes and taking advantage of what available underneath rather than going downtown ineffectively all the time.

Romos' the future QB of this team. But an understudy, with a different game might "focus" Romo a bit, and force him into considering what is really the most important element in his life, at the moment.

2) Kick Off specialist. Call me crazy, but giving the ball to the opponent consistently at the 35-40yd line is simply unacceptable. Throughout the course of a game that is too much of an advantage in field pos. given to the opposition. The new ex-jag ST coord. will go along way in shoring up our coverage teams, having McBriar back for punts will be enourmous, but kicking off must be addressed.

3) LT. Nows the time to grab a Legit tackle with our first pick in the 2nd round. If one slides that shouldn't, wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if we moved up into the bottom of the first or top of 2nd to make sure we get one that our scouts and Houck feel good about.
Flozell is fading quicker than any of us really want to admit, and teams do not let LT's hit the market, and even if they did, their price tag breaks the cap. Get one with some pedigree in the draft with our first pick, even if we have to call it a day. It has too be done.

4) ILB. Not sure how much in the tank Zach has, even though he has never been short of heart. Would love to add Ray Lewis for the right price, and draft some youth at the pos. with one of our fourths or even the 3rd.

5) Safety. We dont need starters per say, Hamlin and a healthy Roy, and a possibly transitioning Henry isn't horrible, but special teams suffered because of inferior gunners and tackling. Watkins and Brown both suck bad, and are not worthy of wearing the Star. Send them packing with Johnson, and give our new ST coach some speedy heavy hitters that can get down field and lay the wood.

If we come out of the draft /FA with these areas addressed, this team will be superior in all phases. A complete over haul is ridiculous, and despite what some peeps are squawking, there simply aren't alot of starting positions available.

We have at least 9 picks in april, lets use them wisely and not draft in a "flood the areas of weakness" mentality, but rather use the extra picks to move around and secure solid contributors that can make a difference and an impact ASAP.

5 rooks did that for this team last year, and another impact draft like that, will put this team back in contention where it belongs.

I'm curious what positions people think we can draft a starter for. I don't think there are very many, especially without a 1st.

2. a real GM
3. a real head coach
4. a 2nd page for Jason Garrett's playbook
5. a free safety with the ability to make plays

I think we can land a starting safety and an effective platoon at ILB/OLB. I don't see us getting a starting NT, cuz this class doesn't seem that great.

Mitch King is what we need though. He can't hold up double teams but he's a monster in short yardage and passing downs, because he's Randy White-like when it comes to disruption.

Whats really a starter, outside of a handfull of posistions, nearly everyone is in rotation in one degree or another.
Just need upgrades on a few contributors....

like Felix Jones brings to the RB by committee.

Like Bennett brings to nice quality depth behind Witten, and his potential is huge.

Like Choice.......... see Felix.

Like Scandrick and Jenkins already working in "starting roles".

Just another solid one like that draft will go very far in 09.

OLB/ILB platoon?

ILB if Thomas leaves--I can see that. We have Spencer and maybe Ellis and Ware at OLB.

What round can we get a starting quality safety in?

In this draft, probably the 2nd.

I think we should cut Ellis, personally, and I'm losing faith in Spencer.

I would like to see the new ST coach, DeCamillis, have his say on that in the draft.

IMO, with his evaluation skills, we can take 1-2 on the second day, and still upgrade over Watkins and Brown.

Earn their way up through ST's first, taking Watkins and Browns spots.

Wouldnt mind seeing Ball try to transistion to safety either and compete in camp.

If we're just talking about strengthening important positions (and not specifically starting roles), then I'd like to see all of our middle positions strengthened: S, ILB, NT, C, QB.

Good point. Maybe what we're looking for, instead of a 'starter', is a 'top-35er'.

Wouldn't a left guard come in as third string behind Kosier and Holland?

The left tackle would probably come in as third string behind Adams and Free, too, right?

It wouldn't kill me to KO specialist but I'm against it. I don't mind opponents starting at the 31 because the kick went to the 6 yard line. I mind them starting at the 40 because the coverage sucked. Folk is going to look a whole lot better under DeCamillis.

No, I want to out and out replace those guys. The left side of the line was a complete disaster. Get me guys in here who can 1) block, 2) not lead the league in penalties and 3) stay somewhat healthy.

Flo sucks, and is getting old anyways. Long overdue that the team move on from Flo.

With an 8 month old in the house and a constantly preoccupied wife, I'm afraid my "5 positions of need" may not be what you were looking for.

So we're cutting Flo in the offseason? I don't mind bringing in someone to compete, but no LT drafted outside the 1st round is going to beat out Adams (and probably not Free either)

Do you really think we'll get someone in the draft able to leapfrog our current starters?

Off the top of your head, do you know how old he is?

That sounds good to me. Maybe, if the value is there, another O-Linemen slips into the top 5 for me.
