It wouldn't kill me to KO specialist but I'm against it. I don't mind opponents starting at the 31 because the kick went to the 6 yard line. I mind them starting at the 40 because the coverage sucked. Folk is going to look a whole lot better under DeCamillis.

If Folk can do both than he saves a valuable roster spot.
If not, than a roster spot is deserving of a hired leg.

We need to draft a new "Trade Bait" player for our hypothetical trades since Carp is probably playing his last season in Dallas and Coakley is long since retired.

Does Hambrick have any kids in college?

Five positions with #5 being the least important and #1 being the most important

#1- S: Roy will be gone and Hamlin is a SS playing FS. We need a ballhawk safety that has great range. This is the biggest area of concern in my opinion. Draft one in the 2nd round.

#2- ILB/OLB: I believe Ellis will be released to save cap money, and I have serious doubts about Spencer, because of his recent arrest and the fact that I seem to see him on facebook a lot. I don't think he's serious about football. Obviously we'll need a ILB next to James. I really think Burnett will be back for some reason, but Carpenter sucks.

#3- DE: Canty most likely isn't coming back so can we depend on Jason Hatcher to be a full-time starter? I don't think so. Bowen is a good role player but I wouldn't depend on Hatcher to be a 1st and 2nd down player.

#4- NT: Ratliff is a beast but there's no one proven behind him. I don't think Dallas will experiment with Ratliff to DE just because Rat made the Pro Bowl. I can see a mammouth NT coming in to spell Ratliff at times and sliding Jay to DE in passing situations

#5- QB: Brooks Bollinger is coming back so I expect us to draft a QB in the 4th or 5th round

With an 8 month old in the house and a constantly preoccupied wife, I'm afraid my "5 positions of need" may not be what you were looking for.

I see it as:

1) S - I just hope the BPA for us with our 2nd is a do it all type Saftey. Someone who can cover and tackle, hopefully good enough to replace Roy as the starter at some point in 2009. If we have to trade up some to get him, so be it.

2) NT - Big run stuffer type. Ratliff must be freed for more snaps at DE since I see us losing Canty.

3) OT - We deseparetly need OL depth. Hopefully we get a little lucky and get at least one guy who can push the incumbents and at least offer a viable alternative in case of injury. I like Adams and Columbo as a starting pair more than most, but they are older and not likely to give us 32 healthy quality game starts.

4) OG - To improve our odds of hitting on at least one OL, were probably going to need to draft 3-4 of them.

5) QB - Unless we pick up someone decent in FA. That being the case, ILB moves up to this spot. Were losing Burnett. Although I think Roy fills the nickle LB role. It may be his true calling. But Thomas and Campbell are real question marks.

I'm assuming neither Canty, Burnett, Tank Johnson, or Z Thomas are returning at this time. (Z Thomas may end up returning, but I'm assuming he wants out.)

TOP 5 NEEDS

1. NT - we move Ratliff around the DL, though playing DE quite a bit.

2. ILB

3. FS - R Williams plays SS (not on obvious passing downs) and nickel ILB, perhaps.

4. DE - Let's remember I'm assuming we lose 2 DL (Tank and Canty).

5. OLB - with the versatility to play a bit inside as well. Again, Ellis is getting old, Spencer is still an unknown quantity (though I think he'll be o.k.)

In the later rounds I'd target OG/C, FB, QB, CB, OT, and a speedy WR/PR in no particular order.

In FA, or with UDFA, I'd also bring in a kickoff specialist for a look.

1. FS- Someone with actual range
2. ILB- Don't want to see Bobby on the field, can't depend on Zach much longer
3. DL- Either end or tackle. Canty will demand more than he's worth. Can replace him with either and end or tackle because of Ratliff, so take whichever position has a better player available
4. LG- Someone to beat out Kosier
5. QB- need a real backup
5a. Kick off specialist- you can't tell me that we can't fit space on the roster for one guy who can kick it into the endzone. Did Nick Folk have any touchbacks?

Brad is the holder... and like the long snapper a few years ago under Jerry his job should be safe!

What positions kept us out of the playoffs?

LG-Covered with Kosier and Holland coming back.
QB-How many games did Grandpa Johnson cost us? 3? 4?

After that you can make an argument for the safety position but it was the constant pressure on our QB's that blew our drives (Especially since most of Garrett's routes require TIME TO DEVELOP.) We have RW-38 coming back (Whether we like it or not,) Hamlin, and possibly Henry. It would be wise to draft somebody here because Wat-can't play and Brown is a wuss.

Next ILB is a huge question mark. Will Zach come back or not?:banghead:

LT- father time is slowing creeping up on us and Flo can't give us top performance through 16 games, and IF we ever get into the post season forget-about-it.

ST-is not very special.

DL- You can always find some nuggets in the draft.

NT
Safety
ILB
and the rest of the draft needs to be people that can give our QB time and protection. The best 10 QB's that ever played the game couldn't do a thing the way this line blocks.

I'm not yet sure of the order, but here they are in no particular order:

1. Backup quarterback
2. Defensive end/nose tackle (whichever position Ratliff isn't playing, assuming moving him to defensive end is a possibility, is a position of need)
3. Strong safety
4. Inside linebacker
5. Offensive line depth (any and everywhere; I like Holland as depth but am not that settled on anyone else)
5a. Outside linebacker (you can never have enough edge pass rushers, and I'm not liking Ellis' attitude and Spencer's combination of lack of production and off-field incident)
