I seem to be reading conflicting reports and opinions on which of these Guards was better in 2012 ?

Can some of our Zoners who watch game film offer an educated opinion on which one is better ?

Thanks !

From what I have seen on film, Livings definitely first half of season. Bernadeau second half. Think everybody feels differently as a whole. IMO Livings was much better in pass protection. Running game both were equally bad

I felt livings was much better. Berny was horrible thevfirst half and improved but even then he wasnt better than average. Livings was average and at times good but mostly average so hevwas the better guard imo.

Where are you guys getting this film? lol.

They both got beat pretty bad on occassions and both had some decent play at times. But IMO Livings is really bad trying to get to the 2nd level and trying to cover a stunt.

I think that had a lot to do with the knee injury.

Both needs replaced if Dallas wants a good line. IMO Livings was the better player. Bernadeau improved toward the end of the season as Livings faded. Neither one will ever be mistaken for a quality guard. Bernadeau seemed to play better at center IMO. He has good physical tools, but plays soft for a man his size.

Romo released the ball in under two seconds (1.86 seconds). What do you think of Bernadeau?

Both are bad but Livings is just a tad better than Bernie, especially in the passing game.

One, if not both, need to be replaced or we will see more of the same this season.

Livings is passable, Bernie was not last year. My ideal and most realistic scenario would be to move Livings over to RG, draft Warmack/Cooper in the 1st to play LG and then let Bernie and Costa battle it out for center. I see Livings as a better fit at RG where he can use his size and strength and play more in a "phone booth" type of position, I dont see him as a guy who should be asked to pull or trap very often.

I think Livings was better, but I mean really I didn't want and don't want either one here.

During the first half of the season, Livings was our best overall lineman (simply because Tyron Smith was adjusting to left tackle). He got a good push in the running game and was consistently in position to negate the pass rush to his side.

Whether it was because of injury or just defenses figuring him out, he started getting beat by quick moves to the inside in the second half of the season. (Canty tore him up by setting up an outside move then ripping to the inside.)

Bernadeau, who was set back by injuries at the start of the season, was the worst run and pass blocker in the first half of the season. Defenders were overpowering him, then setting him up, getting him offbalance and beating him with speed moves. A lot of that can be attributed to him getting a late start learning the system and meshing with the line. He got much better with his slide-and-protect the second half of the season, but was never a very good run blocker.

Some of their struggles might be attributed to the center position being in flux and then Cook's issues there with the run blocking, and they might be better after more time in the system and familiarity with the other linemen.

Then again, both have their flaws that will always cause some blocking issues until Dallas upgrades the line. I believe (if health allows) they will be better even if we do nothing to the line, but if Dallas truly wants to build a championship team, it needs to put more championship-caliber players on the line than just Smith.

IMO, Livings played better...he played like a starter...bernie, to me, is the type of player that you like to have because he can back-up all 3 of the interior positions...but, let's not start him if at all possible...

Oh that BS doesn't work anymore.

The people who really want to study the game invested in the NFL all 22 and like hairic shows in a later post it is actual film.

Beware of any posters on here yelling on a podium about any player's performance if they haven't invested in this and taken their time to peruse it.

It's obvious that there was some hesitation on his part on what man to block. That's the way the Skins beat us that day and Garrett never properly adjusted.

However, I though Bernadeau was a good guard in this league by the end of the season and playing better than Livings.

Yeah, but Berny was the first one back there to help Romo up!

As to the OP, what smells worse Doberman poop or German Shepherd poop?

Good cut up there hairic.

It's hard to say which one was worse over the course of the season, especially after the Cowboys said that Livings struggled with a knee injury in the second half of the season. Both OGs had alot of inconsistent play over the entire year.

Not knowing the full extent of the injury problems they faced throughout the year makes it difficult to evaluate their play because in the case of Livings after it was made known about his injury looking back at the tape I can see where he had his problems with it.

In Bernadeau's case it was obvious early on that the hip was making him stiff getting out of his stance. I'd imagine that the other issues with his own knee issue also played a part in his struggles as well.

This doesn't mean that I think they are the best solution going forward.

I've watched some of the games in all22 but not all. And I haven't watched it looking at just one player an entire game either.

My impressions are that the entire OL is inconsistent. Every single one of them. I agree Livings was our best player early on. I think we're going to have to bring the competition in and let the best players settle out. Hopefully we will not have so many injuries to the OL that we can't get to that point.
