Actually, I liked Cundiff, too and I'm sad he didn't make it.
His kickoffs show he has a leg, his problems are mostly psychological. With a name like Billie, I think he sees himself as a little boy whereas someone who calls himself Bill, would see himself as a man and have a stronger psyche. I suspect Bill Parcells' browbeating coaching style developed insecurity and doubt and fear in Billie's mind and affected his performance, not to mention Larry Allen jumping on his case. I think most of us would be a little jittery under those circumstances.
I think we need someone who has confidence in himself and I think the coach does not need to undermine that self-confidence. Maybe that was the value of the old kicking coach, to serve as a buffer between the kickers and the head coach as well as pump up their confidence. If you're going to kick in this league you really need to be thick-skinned and determined. We clearly need the second coming of Lou Groza on this team, that's what Parcells wants anyway - he doesn't want any weak sisters on his team.
