I owe Jenkins a huge apology, after last years Giants incident I was ready to see him fry. This guy has turned it up.

Ditto.

The only time the Saints moved the ball at will was when Jenkins was of the field.

Shutdown corner growing up before our eyes, ladies and gents. He's like a young Newman.

Bad comparison. Jenkins is a ball hawk. Newman never was. He reminds me of Charles Woodson.

I know Anthony Henry mentored Jenkins even from his days at South Florida and I think Jenkins plays a lot like Henry except he is in a more athletic body.

Not really.. Anthony was a zone corner that could jump on routes.. Henry was never a good man to man corner like Jenkins is. Jenkins can man up and his zone coverage is getting better.

But with better ball skills. Newman used to shut his guy down, but didn't make the opposing team pay for testing him. He didn't give up any plays, but didn't make any either.

Jenkins does a good job of keeping his man from getting the ball, but he also has some very instinctive ball skills.

Yeah, we were yelling Who Dat! at the bar last night with all the saints fans around, there was only a couple altercations. ha

Henry made his share of plays in man coverage too.

The only difference I see between the 2 is Jenkins is a lot more athletic.

Maybe this was covered in another thread, but was it Millen who claimed that Brees had a sure TD on that play had he not underthrown it? It looked to me like Jenkins was with his man stride for stride, and therefore in position to knock down a good throw.

Yes he did. Jenkins was locked on stride for stride. He just turned around first, seeing that the ball was under thrown. :starspin

You know he is a coach on this team, wonder what he thinks about all those saints fans shouting his name. :D

Newman is in the top 10 cornerbacks for interceptions since he came into the league. He's never had a season with a bunch of interceptions, but he has consistently gotten interceptions and usually ends the season with three or four. That might not seem like a lot, but not many cornerbacks consistently get that many in a season.

I'm not sure about you, but I believe the Cowboys gave us a sound reason that they could win last night.

Thoughts?

People don't give Newman much credit because he had a couple of memorable drops and that sticks out, but yea he's always been able to get his share of turnovers.

If Jenkins had had that crazy pick that Newman had vs. Rivers, people would be wetting their pants saying "ballhawk!!!"

Interesting stuff. I think he usually only gets about 3 or 4 so you wouldn't think that would be enough. I guess not though.

You to remember that he also spent a ton of years just not getting thrown at. For a 3-4 year stretch, he was among the league leaders in lowest target %, while guys like Jacques Reeves and Ant Henry had the highest target numbers in the league.

People don't complain that Nnamdi Asomugha doesn't lead the league in picks, do they?

That has to be my favorite picture of the year. Absolutely awesome.

That they could win was never in doubt. Some people have the balls to pick against the Boys from time to time while others ritually chant "believe" until they finally get one right. Anyway, this is a good day for the front runners, who usually scatter like cockroaches after a loss. No offense.

Hey, better to be right twice as much as you're wrong than the reverse. When we start putting up 5-11 seasons again, then I'll stop "believing." As long as we're winning and have good coaches and a good QB, I'll continue to "believe."

That's just how it works.

And how many times have we seen Jenkins come out of nowhere to knock down the ball.

There is no guarantees when you throw at Jenkins. Even if you have 3 yards of seperation.
