Picked this up off another site.

Guess Dallas has offered one. I didn't think they would because they waited so long to even talk about one but supposedly that's the word from his agent on Twitter.

@JordanWoy: Happy to be officially working with Anthony Spencer. Working to determine if he will sign franchise tender or long term.

I hope it's a lowball offer.

I'm talking lower than a salamander's belly.

I don't think signing him long term is a bad move if the money isn't too high. I just ask for once we don't overpay for a role player.

Agreed.............the dude is a JAG, anything over $5 mill a year is just stupid.

If he was a JAG then he wouldn't get 5 mil and he would not be franchised. That hate for spencer is borderline crazy

I agree. You would think some posters here were paying Spencers salary out of thier own pockets. HE ISNT WARE !!!! He is a solid, dependable player.

Its not hate, its called production. Go look at his stats on NFL.com and come back and tell me he is a top 5 player at his position.

I will watch as you get laughed off this board trying to defend using the franchise tag on him.

After reading that tweet, I don't think the agent meant there is an actual offer on the table. It just sounded like he is still working towards a long term deal, or just sign the franchise tag.

Who hasn't touched Greg Ellis's stats when he was across from Demarcus. Just sayin'...

So solid, dependable players are paid top 5 money?

I will tell you the same thing I just told that other poster, go look at his stats on NFL.com and come back here and say with a straight face Spencer is top 5 at his positon.

Now if he is not top 5, why is he being paid like he is? Maybe its just me, but I am not down with grossly overpaying players for JAG stats.

Look at what the guy's actually been paid, instead of what he would get paid if he were to sign the franchise tender. If anything, he's been underpaid, and the OP of this very post says that him playing for the existing tender (for a single year) is not a sure thing.

There's nothing to be upset about yet. Hard as it is, you just have to save your indignation until it's time to be indignant.

He just changed agents and Wed is the end of the NFL mandated waiting period for a new agent to represent a client. IMO there are no long term negotiations going on at this time and the 'Boys are content to let him play out the Franchise offer. I think he better sign it before the draft or it may get pulled if a replacement is drafted.

It better be incentive laden to light a fire under him, like 1 million bonus for ten sacks. A signing bonus that must be returned if performance doesn't exceed certain numbers over the life of the contract.

I agree that he isn't worth a huge contract.

He is not a JAG, so you can share the laughs.

Jordan Woy is the same guy that represents Jason Witten so he has familiarity in dealing with the Cowboys.

I am assuming here but Spencer changing his agent to a guy that is well known with Stephen Jones probably means Spencer wants to stay in Dallas.

It will be fine as long as the deal is reasonable.

I believe getting pressure from an end spot would help Spencer and Ware too. Cox would be a nice addition for the much needed help.

Most important post of the thread.

I think the Jones have learned from prior bad contracts. Newman,Barber ECT. The franchise tag just buys them time until they find a replacement.. 9 mil for one year is much better than lets say 50 over 5. With who knows how much guaranteed.

Exactly. Seems we would learn to cut bait with guys that want huge contracts and bring in some young hungry player that could match Spencers production.
