It was interesting during the Bengals game they threw up the list of the longest tenured HCs. 1-8 only Marvin Lewis and JG have never won a SB heck they haven’t even sniffed one. Belichick, McCarthy, Payton, Tomlin, Harbaugh, and Carroll at least have 1 ring. You could play that game what two things are not like the others. Lol.

Marvin Lewis has 6 losing seasons in 15 years as a HC. Garrett has 1 losing season in 7 years.

And Garrett doesn’t get enough credit for keeping this team in playoff contention from 2011 - 2013. Outside of Romo those teams and had very, very little talent and frankly had no business sniffing contention. The 2011 - 2012 OL was all-time franchise bad.

Given the injuries in 2015, a perfectly reasonable argument can be made that the only year he underachieved was last year. And if Zeke isn’t suspended we probably still make a wildcard.

Good coaches make the playoffs more often than not. Garrett has two playoff seasons in seven years. He’s not a bad coach. He’s just not a good one right now.

I do find it interesting that guys like Belichick can turn over half their ballclub from year to year and still win; but if Garrett loses a starter or two on the Cowboys for a couple of weeks, the wheels come off. Why is that?o_O

*cough *cough... coaching...

It’s because people apparently can’t count wins and losses very carefully or have zero sense of context.

Garrett isn’t Belichick. But then, no other coach in the history of the league was, either.

He also lost his starting QB the year prior and went 13-3.
Meh. He had a whole month to prepare for that. How about when the QB goes down in the season? Happened to Belichik twice. Once he won a Super Bowl with Brady. The next time, he won 10 or 11 games with Cassell. Pederson won a Super Bowl when their starter went down with about a month to go and everyone wrote them off.

Tell me what happens when we have injuries during the season with Garrett? Oh that is right, our season falls apart. 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Thing is, good coaches can face adversity and get through it. Garrett needs the starts to align to even get to the playoffs. He needs a QB/RB playing at all pro levels, hardly any injuries and an offense that is at the top in efficiency. This shields all his flaws. If any little thing goes wrong, we sink. Can you explain that? Because this doesn't happen with the good coaches.

This is the same staff who made absolutely no adjustments when Green gave up 8 sacks last year. Not. One.

So it’s not a big deal to lose your first string QB, your second string QB, and are stuck with an undrafted FA QB, and a late fourth round rookie QB, and go 13-3 with a relatively untalented defense. OK.

The question people keep ignoring with this thing is who could come in right now and do better? Guys not current employed. You’re not getting Cowher, or Saban, or Daniels. Do you give the team over to Louisiana Tech’s HC? The Jaguars’ quality control guy? Do you really think Linehan can do much better? He has a worse coaching history than Garrett.

If you’re going anywhere this year, it’s with Jason Garrett. What about next year if you go 10-6 and win a playoff game in Atlanta? Do you fire Garrett and pick up Carolina’s Oline coach? How much sense does that make?

I used to defend Garrett because his accomplishments with what little he had were impressive: 8-8 with historically bad defenses, 13-3 with mountains of adversity, etc.

But I'm tired of celebrating winning records followed by playoff collapses. 2 wins in the playoffs in all these years sucks. There's no way around that. It sucks. Maybe he doesn't suck but his output does. I think at a certain point you're being willfully ignorant of the common denominator here.

The ten year process is almost coming to an end...if the Cowboys do not appear in at least a NFC championship game I strongly believe Jerry has to move on....
