Looking way ahead I know, but it seems like this year was always going to be a hard year for free agency because so many of our players were hitting the market. It seems like for next year, we aren't losing that many big names. Dez, Crawford, and Mo are the only three I can really see that have their contracts up, and I believe Dez will get a long-term contract before the year starts, and Mo is no big deal (or good riddence depending on how your look at it), that would leave just Crawford. This would seem to make it make even more sense to get some of Romo's salary to next year, knowing we will probably have considerably more freedom next year.

I might try to sign Crawford now if i'm Jerry. I could see him getting a big pay day if he makes it to free agency.

thanks for the subject it does bring a little focus on the a bit of
longer term thinking and the salary conundrum.
this was a tuff year like New orleans went through 3 or 4 years ago

I bet Crawford gets some years added to his contract before camp

Crawford is a guy I can see Dallas locking up before FA even hits.

I'd rather Dallas continue its success in draft and even improve on it to the point that losing FA doesn't become much of an issue. If McClay has another good draft I am far more concerned of losing him compared to losing any one player. Dallas would need to move him up into maybe co-GM capacity.
