It’s going to be a long several months for fans as this team which has a problem with opening their wallets in the first place tries to navigate out from under what will likely be their first sub-.500 season since 2020. The first step will be to determine what the coaching staff looks like, and then to move on to players to fit their scheme.

Head Coach Hire: Joe Brady, current Bills OC

In our most recent Mike McCarthy Replacement Rankings, Brady wrestled the No. 1 spot away from Detroit’s Ben Johnson, so we roll with him in our initial mock offseason. Brady runs a passing offense that is huge on pre-snap motion (66% this year) and a West Coast attack, which Dak Prescott has run under McCarthy. The run game is a zone scheme, which has worked in Dallas in the recent past.

Brady’s first order of business is bringing in a defensive coordinator, and for that we’ve pegged Dennis Allen. Allen was the DC in New Orleans when Brady cut his teeth in the NFL as an assistant. As DC in New Orleans, he stewarded a top unit that led to him succeeding Sean Payton as head coach.

I don’t see Lance returning at all. Dlaw maybe if he’s willing to play below market. I think rush returns but pretty much agree on the rest

Jerry is a guy that double downs on every bad decision because of his ego. Fat Mike will be back. Dowdle will start. Not much will change next year. Only hope is for the Jones family photos to show up in P Diddy parties and Roger Goodell gets to force Jones family out.

Mike McCarthy's status
Last, but certainly not least, comes Mike McCarthy. With his contract also expiring after the conclusion of the season, Jones and the front office need to decide if they've seen enough to bring him back. Even in a losing season in 2024, Jones feels that McCarthy has handled the season well given the cards he was dealt.
"I think Mike's done a great job considering the challenges that we've had, and Mike Zimmer the same way, it's been a new group out there…" Jones said. "I think Mike's done a good job of getting the guys prepared."

This is where most of the fans here disagree. Team intensity was always lost by game 17.

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the best teams at wheeling and dealing in the early 90’s, but the trend stopped.

What happened to the maverick owner Jerry Jones, who put his money where his mouth was and went out and bought the best players?

Is it old age, lack of urgency, or too many chefs in the kitchen?

One thing is for sure: The Dallas Cowboys do not seem to care about winning by paying free agents; instead, they draft to fill needs.

What about the LSU HC Brian Kelly ? SEEMS like he may be a good gamble. Would Nick Saban come out of retirement to give the NFL another try?

It’s as if other front office members stepped in and stopped the big-time trades Jerry Jones is used to making. Once Stephen Jones became a more significant presence in the organization, these trades stopped, and penny-pinching became a trend.

The early years were great because the salary cap was not an issue. Understanding and abiding by the salary cap is a must, but it seems other teams around the league know how to circumvent the cap and make their teams better.

The Dallas Cowboys and the Joneses seem lost because they cannot spend money at will and must abide by strict cap regulations. Taking more risks would be beneficial, but the younger Stephen Jones seems adamant about saving money.

Maybe this offseason will be different, and the Cowboys will spend some of the cap they can create.

Damn it Jerry, look in the mirror and not to see if you are still rich...

It has been a difficult season to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. It’s been a difficult few years, actually. If you’re in your late 30s or older like I am, it’s been a long 29 years since we last felt the thrill of a deep playoff run, much less a Super Bowl victory.

That thrill won’t be coming this season either, so don’t hold your breath. Yesterday’s blowout loss has nothing to do with it, but the Cowboys are officially eliminated from playoff contention as of last week. Philadelphia came into the game without their starting quarterback after Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion in last week’s loss at Washington.

Still, the Eagles defense forced four turnovers and turned those big plays into 24 points, including an opening drive interception returned for touchdown by S C.J. Gardner-Johnson. A Cowboys offense who looked so efficient over the past few weeks was rendered inept by a disruptive Eagles front seven.

Those Eagles kicked your butt again in week17.

Stephen, this part of the admins is on you. When talent starts to accumulate and you choose to pay them. They don't match up with team goals when those players start to accumulate age as to productions...if you don't figure out financing that pushed a couple of positional groups over the top and young enough to pay off.

This is your ego hurting now, Stephen. All Jerry room to make his real kind of team!

CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
Brady or KM
Kellen has proven He can work within Dak's limitations and believes in zone offense. Kellen is the reason you see CeeDee lining up all over. And running all types of plays, it's so good.
I think he would find a way to use Turpin. A lot.
And as important as anything else, I think he has a good relationship with Dak.

Stephen, quit using cuffs on your Dad. It's his team and you benefited. Allow him to use his real strength and gambling to make his team reach the very top.

Allow Jerry the room because it can be done and managed in the here and now.

McCarthy's waiting upon the constant role of the end of season analysis is actually professional on his credit.

You can swap DLaw and osa
No, I'll take them both with Stephen handling a few more contract credability. Leadership is needed on the carpet. If he is healthy pull both switches. The box area improves to defense being controlling towards an opponent's pace in a game.

But that’s Mike McCarthy, folks. That’s the guy Packers fans weren’t sorry to see leave in 2018. That’s the coach who’s had his rear handed to him in three straight playoff eliminations. Once an opposing coaching staff has his number, he doesn’t know how to change the equation.

Goodell has no say on ownership if there is no illegal activity in background.
