Doing construction once every week or so on the weekends is so obnoxious, and with summer here Im trying to find a job to regularly work for this summer/school year up until next summer since I already have a job lined up to work from next summer threw my graduation of college.

Any ideas?

I have some interview tips for you. PM if you want to see some of them. I recently received some from my sister who just graduated from Business School.

Also, How much work experience do you have? At your age, I'm guessing not that much, so you would probably have to go to a unskilled labor position, such as cashier or something.

Indoors: Barnes & Noble. Air conditioning and very mellow. No crazy sales, no rush, just books.

Outdoors: Irrigation/Sprinkler installation. I did it a few summers and loved it. Worked outside, kept me in shape, lots of girls ll around and when I installed at restaurants and fast-food joints, I got a free meal.

For a teen I would have to say Best Buy is the best place you can work. The discount it great and the starting pay is better than many places. And depending on your desired future major the sales experience looks great on your resume. I worked there for 4 years and the second I put my resume online with that on there (haven't graduated college yet) and I'm getting calls left and right for sales positions all over the metroplex.

If not Best Buy, any retail sales location will do.

As stated above a Best Buy would be great. Something like a Blockbuster or Hastings (Both movie rental places in case there aren't any Hastings anywhere near where some of you guys live) is also another solid option.

Walmart is not a bad place to work for either and there is always the old standby of working fast food. Arbys is a solid place to work for as is KFC if you're interested in those sorts of things.

A hotel. Preferably a nice one without many rooms. Easy to swing 9$/hr and you're in the a/c. I'm in Texas and poured concrete a few summers and it was killer, now i'm about to transfer schools to finish up my bachelor's and i make 11$/hr at a hotel.

I did the fast food racket when I was a teen. Wendy's, Jack in the box.

Got to college and worked at Blimpie's and another fast food burger joint.

Teens Face Worst Summer Job Market in 41 Years

By: Joseph Pisani

The kickoff to the summer job season is not looking so hot for teens.

Employment among 16-to 19-year olds in May grew by just 6,000, the smallest increase since 1969, when teen jobs fell by 14,000, according to government data analyzed by employment firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In May 2008 and 2009, teen employment grew by over 110,000.

“It’s certainly a preliminary strong indication that it’s going to be a tough job market for teens,” said John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Jobs traditionally given to teens are apparently going to older workers who are willing to take low paying job to make ends meet. Employment among 20- to 24-year-olds grew by 270,000 in May, an unusual spike, considering that employment in the same age group fell by 261,000 in May 2009.

"Also impacting the job market for young adults are the large number of older adults who are willing to accept even a temporary, seasonal position simply to generate some income," said Steven Rothberg, chief executive officer of CollegeRecruiter.com, an online entry-level job-posting site.

"We're seeing experienced candidates taking jobs normally reserved for college grads and college grads taking jobs normally reserved for college students," said Rothberg.

But there's still a possibility for a turnaround, Challenger said, since June is traditionally the month when employers do the majority of their summer hiring. A strong June or July could still lift total hiring for the season, even if it looks unlikely now.

Another reason for slower hiring, experts said, is that the establishments that usually add summer help are also the places where Americans hit by the recession may be cutting back on spending. The majority of young Americans aged 16- to 24-years old worked in the leisure and hospitality industry last year at establishments such as theme parks, hotels and restaurants. The other popular industries were in retail and in education and health services, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Employers may prefer the older workers, experts said, because they get a more experienced employee for their money.

“They feel like they get someone who's more mature," said Challenger, "and has better work habits, no question."
