Looks like the Boys Front Office was right about Sam LaPorta

If we had taken O cyrus, I would have thought this draft would have been fantastic, in that we really shored up the trenches.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Schoon pick, especially given who we could have taken and the fact that we drafted two TEs in previous years. However, Schoon needs time to develop, so I'll withhold any judgments right now, and I think he'll be our 'go to' over Hendershot if Ferguson goes down. Our TE as a collective has a huge drop problem though. Ferguson looks to be getting over them the quickest though.

Were you in their locker room? Do you have any idea about whether or not Hockenson or Swift were fitting in to their culture? From my readings, they were not.... and decisions about their contracts were coming quickly. So Campbell moved on from them and replaced them.

Its easy to sit in the bleachers and chirp.... especially when you have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.

They're so nonsensical in their team build that they're the favorites in their division, widely respected for the job they've done by former players and NFL analysts and have already beaten the Chiefs....
They have a talented roster from years of sucking and stockpiling premium draft capital. their draft was strange to say the least, but they had so many picks that it gets handwaved after the fact.

It was reported that the Cowboys Front Office was high on LaPorta. So far he looks like the best TE in the class. I think he would've helped significantly in the red zone. Too bad the boys went with Mazi who probably won't make a significant impact until his 3rd year.
And we got the worst.

You claimed you were pleased with what Schoonmaker has done so far. We drafted a TE in the fourth round last season who currently has 17 catches for 147 yards and one TD. Our second round TE has 1 catch for 1 yard and a TD plus he dropped a TD in the endzone last week. Schoonmaker has only been targeted 5 times compared to 25 times for Ferguson. He’s on the verge of taking a stranglehold on the number one TE position. I like what I’m seeing from him. He showed something as a rookie, and he’s taken another step so far this season. The Cowboys would’ve been much better off drafting a different position in the second round.
Torrence!

Apparently I don’t because I don’t see how anyone could be pleased with Schoonmaker so far.
His blocking has been great. He missed the entire offseason and TC and preseason. Makes sense he is behind. Looks like he has already secured the #2 te role.

I wanted torrence but based on his position and injury he is doing ok.

You are overlooking something important. They have a top-3 offensive line now and want to keep it together. Swift and Hockenson wanted a good piece of cash, and giving them what they wanted would impede them keeping that line together. LaPorta has become their second-best receiver and is a better than average blocker so far. Nothing wrong with that. The Gibbs pick...meh. I wouldn't have done that.
Better than average blocker? You watch lion games and focus on la porta every play?

I'm fine with the Mazi pick as it looks like he's slowly coming around... I'm fine with the pick not necessarily because of his on field performance but moreso because it indicates the FO is willing to spend high resources into positions that have been long-neglected and now we're seeing the results. I think taking a TE in the first is a sort of Cadillac pick.

If you ignore the Arizona game, we've had some of the best defensive performances in Cowboys history. I'll take holding the opposing offense to 0, 10 and 3 points any day.
Slowly coming around?

When I say better than average I am taking that from a +50% win rate. He's not great but the times I watched the Lions he was okay. He's not Kittle or Goedart-level with his blocking, that's for sure...but he's not a traffic cone either.

The draft is not about a rookie year production. I remember fans saying we should have taken merryman over ware

The dude was in college for like 6 years. It took him that long to develop into what he is now. How long do we have to wait for him to develop into a quality tight end
