that would be interesting, we will have to look up gruden vs phillips defense.
Garcia and galloway worry me and big jeremy stevens down the middle.
Ok.
In 1998 Buffalo dismantled Gruden's Raiders 44-21 outgaining them 316 -178. However, that was against the great Wade Wilson .
In 1999 the Bills lost a close game to Oakland, 20-14, allowing 343 total yards. That loss was msotly due to three Doug Flutie picks.
in 2002, when Wade was the DC in Atlanta they were swept by the bucs 20-6 and 34-10. In the first meeting, Doug Johnson threw three picks as the Bucs rolled up 327 yards of offense. They only scored one offensive touchdown. In the second meeting was just ugly as the Bucs rolled up 421 yards to the Falcons 181. Brad Johnson went crazy as he threw for four tds.
In 2003, It was more of the same. The first meeting a 31-10 Tampa Bay win was highlighted by Doug Johnson's three picks (I said it was more of the same) The Bucs rolled up 316 yards of offense. The Falcons won the second meeting 30-28 (Wade was the interim coach for this one), but were torched defensively for 440 yards. However Brad Johnson was forced into 4 ints to go with his 4 tds. He threw for 346 yards but that was a product of trailing 30-7 at one point.
FWIW Our current defensive personnel is much more suited to Wade's schemes than the Falcons (Patrick Kerney as a 3-4 DE, uh,no.)
In 2004 Wade was the DC for San Diego They beat Tampa Bay 31-24. They allowed 436 yards against a Brian Griese led Buccaneer squad that finished 5-11 that year. Griese threw for 392 yards and 3 tds but also was picked three times.
Wade is 3-4 all time against Gruden., 2-1 as a head coach. Gruden seems to have no problem moving the ball against Phillips averaging 351.6 ypg and 25.4 ppg. Wade's teams have shown a propensity for forcing turnovers, though.
What does this have to do with the current Tampa Bay and Dallas squads? WellTampa currently excels at the deep ball to Galloway. IMO Phillips willensure that we will not get beat by the deep ball. I do see them trying to attack us with Stevens and Hilliard alot. I think we can handle their ground game fine.
What tilts in our favor is our offense versus thier defense Tampa runs the Tampa-2 (duh!) adefense we have had much success against this year. If TO is healthy we will get points on these guys. I see Jason Witten and Marion Barber having big days ala Detroit. Another thing I've noticed against Gruden is if he gets behind early he panics and goes into passing mode (that may account for Wades success in getting picks) If we get an early lead, that could very well be to our advantage.
Boy that was some research.
