Mine was kind of an extreme comparison, as Woods is nowhere near as talented Mack, but more so to stress how idiotic I think it is to judge talent based on school. School is a judgement on perception, not talent. I agree, BCS players are drafted ahead based on perception, but that doesn't mean they are better players. I like Woods's game a lot. I'd have no issues taking him in the third. He's a really talented kid. Perhaps even a trade down into the 4th for better value and pick up a 5th, since we don't have one. I think he's a second round talent, but his small school status pushes his perceived value to the 3-4 range.

Yes, there are some small school players who are better than players who play for the power conferences. But, by and large, teams tend to gravitate and draft those from the power conferences and slot their value, accordingly - unless there's just that can't-miss prospect like Carson Wentz, Khalil Mack, etc.
Having said that, I don't know much about Xavier Woods. I hope he's all that you say he is and that we can get him on the "cheap" in the fourth round or lower. :)

Louisiana Tech S Xavier Woods is visiting the Cowboys this week.

Rotoworld's Josh Norris recently suggested Woods could land with the Cowboys on day two. Woods is a hard hitter who was used in a variety of different alignments. The Cowboys are in need of a starting safety. Immediately

What's it going to be then, eh?

The 4th round would make me a little more comfortable. I don't have him in among the top 100 in this draft. Close though.

I would have no problem taking Woods in the 3rd. Optimally, they could trade down into the compensatory picks or top 4th and select him there while picking a 5th, since the Cowboys don't have one.
