Love our Defense, but we're afraid of the big play

Dude, seriously? After we held them to one TD last night?

Yeah, Philly stays aggressive... Like they did on the huge plays to Crayton and Miles.

We *are* an aggressive defense. But there's a line between aggressive and reckless. We couldn't allow Jackson and Maclin to get behind us -- and we didn't.

Good stuff.

Dallas holding Jackson to 2 catches for 29 yards and Mcline to 3 catches for 44 yards and no TD's for either was big. Not to mention holding McNabb to 227 with 2 ints.

They lost because a corner bit on a route and a pump fake, not because of the blitz....

There was a blitz on the play, however, you are correct. It was the pump fake that beat them.

You have to wonder, though, if the CB would have bit on the slant fake if he knew that his LBs would be in that area of the field rather than blitzing.

I think both go hand in hand IMHO.

Well Philly WAS leading the league in big plays, so I think he came out with a good gameplan.

We'll probably see a more aggressive gameplan next week vs. GB's line.
I don't know about that, Green Bay lives on the big play too.

The corner expects a hot read on that play. If the quarterback is being blitzed, he's going to try throwing the ball quickly. Brown expected that.

However, we expected the blitz and kept extra people in to block. The blitz got picked up, Romo and Austin faked the slant, the Eagles bit, and the rest is history. It was the perfect play call executed perfectly.

If the Eagles hadn't blitzed, there's not much chance that Brown would have bit on the slant. They would have been playing softer, just trying to prevent a first down on third-and-long. But they played aggressively, and it cost them the game.

Wade plays the game way too cautious on defense.

The thing I like so much about Philly's defense is that they play aggressive from beginning to end. The bring the blitz all day, and QBs struggle because of it.

I'm tired of seeing us bring 4 against the pass... I loved the idea of bringing carpenter or brooking on a stunt or delayed blitz.

Good thing you were not calling the plays last night. ;)

I love an aggressive defense as much as the next guy, but against the eagles last night was not the place for it.

There were a few plays where our secondary was beat but our pressure disrupted McChoke's passes. Also if you recall the 1st game of the season we were bringing the house and we were getting burnt so Wade had to tone it down...

I was thinking during the game that we just were not bringing enough pressure but in the end Philly allowed the big plays BECAUSE they brought pressure and we did not allow the big plays.

So, what do you want - the Win or the Loss?

They actually show that the linebacker IS in that area, he didn't need to jump the fake.

We play press coverage more often than not.

Philly started off blitzing almost literally every play and it was stopping us. They let up and we scored points.

This thread makes no sense. It's like you watched the opposite of the game I watched.

had nothing to do with the blitz.

But it wasnt a linebacker it was #27, safety quentin mickell. Has perfect coverage inside.

And i reiterate, I am not talking about last night... next person who brings up last night is simply not listening.

I'm talking about the course of play throughout the season.

Actually, I think they've done a fantastic job of mixing up the defensive strategies this year. Wade has devised winning defensive schemes in 6 of the last 8 games. I'm glad we don't have a defensive identity. I think they are too predictable. The good thing is we are capable of playing a multitude of defensive philosophies. You need us to step back and cover? We can do that. Need us to blitz the QB? We can do that. Need us to stomp out the run? We can do that. The fact that we can dial up ANY of these philosophies in any given week and be successful more often than not is a testament to the defenses coaching and discipline.

I'll take it.
