Lovie Smith dined with safety prospect Allen

So in other words, if we do trade down in first round, has to be above the bears pick, because they are looking at Allen.

No one expects South Florida safety Nate Allen to fall far into the second round, and many think he'll go in the first 32 picks.

The Bears don't pick until No. 75, which is why we noted the Bears' interest in him last week, and why we're following up with the news Smith had breakfast with the kid before Allen's Pro Day workout, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago would have to make a significant trade up for a chance to nab Allen, which would go against G.M. Jerry Angelo's track record.

In this desperate all-in year for the Bears, track records don't seem to matter anymore.

I'm convinced Dallas loves this guy.

With Iupati, the top two safeties, Dez, and the top OTs gone, I think Allen or McCourty is who Dallas picks.

Yep...I said early on I think they will wind up with Nate Allen but at the time I figured it would be in a trade down. Since that time the Rutgers CB has entered the equation. Now that war room would probably explode with excitement if Iupati falls to them but that seems like it will not happen so, same with dez...so it looks like Allen or McCourty.

Both would fit something we need IMO so I would not be upset but I would still rather trade down a tad if that is who they get.

Time will tell.

Him...talking about Nate Allen so we should look at your sig of someone not named nate allen.

How about we don't look at your sig again until after the draft...at which time you will probably have changed it.:D

That's a tough choice for me.

Corners are more valuable and this one can return kicks. They need to find Newman's eventual replacement and you can never have enough good cover guys.

But free safety has been a hole at Dallas for a long time, and Allen appears to be a very smart, athletic guy who could finally solidify that spot.

If they think Mike Hamlin could be the answer at FS, then I would lean toward the cornerback.

From the best player available philosophy, I'm leaning towards McCourty due to his STs ability (returning and blocking kicks) and that CBs are always at a premium. That said, we would still need to look at Safety either later in the Draft or FA. Allen would fill a need for us this year, though.
