LSU has fired football coach Les Miles, multiple sources confirmed to The Advocate on Sunday.

Miles coached the Tigers for 12 years, going 114-34 overall and winning the BCS championship in 2007. His team entered the season ranked fifth in the country, but after losing to Auburn on Saturday to fall to 2-2 on the season, the Tigers are no longer ranked in the top 25.

Along with Miles, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has also reportedly been fired.

Miles was nearly fired at the end of the 2015 season only to have LSU President F. King Alexander nix the plan at the last minute.

Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Orgeron previously served as the interim head coach at USC when Lane Kiffin was fired in the middle of the 2013 season.

If 114-34 isn't enough to keep a coach from getting fired, why would anyone want that job?

Because it's a great job.

Someone is going to get paid a king's ransom to take over an extremely talented football team in the toughest conference in college football.

Coaches will be drooling to land this job.

LSU has always been a QB away from being as dominant as Alabama. Their talent level is ridiculous. Their next coach will need to have a reputation of being good with QBs so they can actually recruit a good one.

I agree that's likely how the coaching search will unfold in the Bayou.

But Nick Saban has been dominant at Alabama without premiere QBs. Imagine what the Tide would do with a prospect like Jameis Winston under center.

Says the Houston fan who does not want to see his/her Head Coach to leave.

Seen rumors on another site that LSU has already reached out to the agent(s?) of Herman and....Art Briles.

Never understood why they couldn't get a competent offense on the field at LSU.

There could be quite a few big name jobs open this December. LSU, obviously. There are rumblings that USC might dump their coach after one year given all the problems internally there. Texas could also be in the hunt if Strong stumbles. And ND might be open as well. The just fired their defensive coordinator and the rumor is the AD had to force Kelly to fire him which would show friction between him and the AD. Those type of situations never end well.

Of course I don't, but that's not an answer. I'll ask again. If being second all time in wins at LSU (with the best winning % in school history) wasn't considered good enough, what would be?

Art Briles would be perfect for that job.
In the SEC where he could basically recruit any player regardless of past and he could pull in lots of Baylor transfers and likely get Jarrett Stidham at QB day 1.

The challenge would be playing SEC style defense.

Herman would also be a great hire. LSU owns La already and gets a lot of NFL talent out of Houston area.

Question for Herman is what job does he want? He's the single hottest name out there,

And Nick Saban was never going to leave the Dolphins.

Whenever a coach says he or his agent has not been contacted...I usually take that with a grain of salt. Does not mean it is not true, but it also does not mean they are telling the truth.

Also you ask what is good enough....

I will answer with...

The amount of money that an SEC program with the backing of LSU has to give a coach is good enough to lure a coach alone.

Not to count the ability to recruit is already in LSU. He can recruit the normal areas that LSU recruits but he can also add other areas in Texas that he normally recruits. He will get a higher star average of recruits at LSU than he will at Houston.

He will also get more TV time and name recognition at LSU than he ever will at Houston.

Make no mistake about it...LSU is a major step of from most Universities even if they are letting a coach go with a good record...that coach won a Title and he was there a good number of years before they let him go. They are not hiring and letting coaches go at the drop of a dime.

LSU hasn't had a top 10 final ranking in 5 years.
Miles has been given the benefit of the doubt.
He has a defense and a RB better than Zeke.

The LSU faithful expect to be top 10 every 2 or 3 seasons.

The national title was 10 seasons ago and it could be argued came with Saban's recruits.

LSU is a top 10 job. But Herman may well be able to get a top 5 job.

Is Les Miles still the coach at LSU this morning if they had gotten the ball snapped half a second earlier?

To be clear, I fully understand that Herman will more than likely leave for a better job. I'm just not sold on the notion that LSU is the best situation he will be offered. Texas, USC and Notre Dame could all be in play by the end of the year. All three of those are better jobs than LSU, if for no other reason than the fact that they wouldn't be in the same division as Saban.

Maybe until the next loss. This point is rather meaningless TBH. He was on a hot seat for a while. Hadn't won enough lately.

Extremely good point. Maybe even great.
