This guy has caught a lot of heat as the season has went on and most of it has been justified.

I think we have a playmaker on our hands and he is every bit, if not more, impressive than Harris as a rookie. He seems to always be a threat with the ball in his hands in the return game...and he has been a spark on offense when used effectively. It is good to see any rookie contribute somehow (he has been more of a spark than Gregory at this point).

Good UDFA find.

I like him. Probably will never be much of a receiver, who knows. But his value will be as a returner. He's clearly a threat with the ball in his hands as a returner. Speed, stop/start ability and decent vision.

I don't think it was Lucky who was getting heat, but the the staff and their reluctance to play him. I can't speak for anyone else, but for most of the season, I was wondering why dress him if you're not going to use him? That's on the coaches more so than Lucky imo.

But yea, kid's looked pretty dynamic. Just another reason to be annoyed with this staff imo.

I agree with you. It seemed like he had a lot of space around him when he fielded the kicks, though. Much more than normal. Was the Washington kicker out kicking the coverage or were our guys doing a better job of blocking the gunners? Either way, I was impressed with Lucky.

I remember some thread at some point going over what our offseason plan should be and saying something along the lines of "cut Lucky, we can do so much better".

Truly can't remember the thread. I know there were a few that didn't want him to make the team as well since he isn't a polished receiver.

He has time to develop and, as you said, who knows. Ted Ginn Jr. has turned into a decent receiver and he looked bad his 1st couple of years in the league.

And if he never develops as a receiver, who cares as long as he's contributing on special teams. Field position is a huge part of every outcome of the game. If we have a guy that does just that and only that, then he has value.

No argument from me.

2015: Harris > Lucky

2016: Harris = Lucky

2017: Harris < Lucky

2018: Lucky signs elsewhere

Im not so sure Harris is better than lucky. Let's compare them at the same point in their careers. Lucky has had 3 very nice returns called back but remember Harris avg less than 6 yards per punt as a rookie and did nothing in the offense
People memory of players as rookies tend to be off compared to reality
Harris is a very good player who has improved as his career has went on just like lucky will but in his first season lucky sure shows at least as good a return skills if not better
Fans don't have the patients for players to develope but Harris did little his first year because he needed to develope his skills

This offense is sorely missing speed on offense and Lucky could provide a little of that. The offensive coaches need to find even more ways to get him on the field and use that speed to their advantage.

Harris had a problem as he let his technique in punt returns regress. He's not overly quick or fast, but a strong runner after the catch, so he needs to have his technique spot-on or he isn't effective returning punts. And Harris isn't much as a kickoff returner (yes, I know he returned a TD on a kickoff against us). I have been high on Whitehead because he has good speed overall, but more importantly he gets going fast quickly. The last return was a great example as he stopped for a split second and then hit 0-60 really quickly. Hopefully he can be a Percy Harvin type without the injuries and the problems with the teammates. Somebody that we can use in the return game and on jet sweeps along with the occasional long ball in the passing game as we create a mismatch.

He's still getting better too. He can be our Josh Cribbs.

It appears they still don't trust him to make the right decision in some situations, or field a punt in traffic, however.
