LVE clearly began doing gameprep this year.
He was a good middle linebacker.
Do I want to sign him to a long term deal knowing he will be hurt a considerable amount of the time
Luckily Jerry is a shrewd negotiator :omg:

I hope they find a way to keep him on a decent contract. But if he goes and we get a comp pick just as well. But prefer to have him on the roster over a comp pick.
I feel the same way about Schultz, keep at a decent contract. But he will want top TE money since he was tagged last year. Schultz would bring a higher comp pick though than LVE.
Also depends what FA's we sign to offset those players lost.

We don't have many players that will get us nothing higher than a 5th round pick. And only have maybe 4 at that.

I think he had a solid year and a good year for him. However he is not the ferocious playmaker or thumper we need on the middle. Not what this defense needs.

Im probably wrong but he seems like he’s in the kind of position where he may want to stay and make some sacrifices. Not a ton of them but:
-He probably loves Quinn and is finding his best under him
-Dallas seems to have a full understanding of his health issue which is quite specific. He may not want to roll the dice on a change in training and medical staff.
-It probably seems the defensive is on the verge based on improvements the last 2 years.

If Dallas is at least somewhat competitive with an offer, maybe they keep him. I can’t think of another player that wouldn’t prioritize his wallet but LVE seems like he may be that dude.

He gone. He's a CAP casualty that we have to take, can't afford ALL 'our guys' and we've got Clark that'll be expected to step up. The reason we never seem to be involved in the better FA's isnt that we're not interested its that most of the league can easily out bid us....it only takes one team and this year there are 16 teams in positive CAP (as opposed to our near $10m deficit)
Personally I think it's like 80%plus chance he will be back, but you may be right that he will be gone. I think your reasoning is way off though. We need a lot more than Clark. We don't even know what Clark is yet or if he is a FT quality starter or a JAG even though he looked pretty good coming back from injury and with no camp. His potential is exciting but he was absolutely lost in coverage on many occasions and in particular playing zone in the middle of the field. Micah plays a lot more edge and the team has no interest in Cox, so who are your LBs? Barr wasn't very good and is going to be 31 in a few weeks. We need more LBs that can play and to improve the quality at the position, we can't let our decent to pretty good ones go

Despite not winning many games in January, winning 24 regular season games in 2 years hardly be classified as a dumpster fire.

There are many many teams who wish they had that kind of success.
You are right, but it just doesn't feel that way to me any more. 24 regular season wins just rings hollow to me after all of this time of "rinse, repeat". But Jerry sure loves this kind of talk

Regular season success after near 30 years without a Super Bowl appearance is a low bar.

I think (and hope) this is accurate. Really if you go back and study the cowboys defense last year DQ basically created a middle backer role for LVE that fit his skill set and kept the big collisions to a minimum.

IMO much of that 24 was due to the NFC being down the past couple of years. But more importantly a team is measured and ultimately graded on how they do in "crunch" time....the playoffs. Playoff success brings bragging rights. Without that success you really do not have much to talk about.

We need an upgrade over LVE. He made some plays, he bombed some plays. I would rate his performance this year as, average. Not terrible, not great.

- LVE is a serviceable band aid… he’s a familiar, experienced warm body until we can eventually get better.
We won’t be at our potential peak if we keep status quo with these decent- serviceable, JAG like players.

- LVE stands out here because anyone else, everyone else on the LB scene has been average to mediocre play.
Anthony Barr, .. Damone Clarke,... Luke Gifford …. So of course, LVE has a chance to stand out more so.

- LVE will occasionally have that solid game per Houston … and even the Niners playoff game.
And I’ve always thought his best forte is how he plays coverage - both in man and in space/zones.
But I get the vibe that the Cowboys could seek to re-sign LVE for a bargain 2 year deal, so it eases the press to draft a LB early on.

- We need playmakers who change how we play defense. How offenses have to play us accordingly.
Imo, we’ve been stuck and content with decent- average-JAG like play at the LB role for far too long.
We stuck around with Jaylon Smith too long, (only cut cuz refusal of pay cut)
..and we were doing the same with LVE, imo.

- We turn down the opportunity to sign FA Bobby Wagner,.. who proved he has juice left with the Rams.
With Clarke, he flashed but consistency, NFL adjustment and that dreaded “rookie wall” seemed to an issue.
The club appeared to stray away from him down the stretch into the playoffs.
But he only became available at around mid season, and he had no camp, no preseason, and he's yet to be in an NFL caliber offseason program.
I’ll await to see what becomes of Clarke in short due time.

How often does this Parsons guy play a typical LB spot? If anything the team seems to be moving him more and more towards playing edge almost FT.

Which i think that's a mistake, imo. Having Parsons playing more full time edge DE, than off the ball LB.

- I'm really worried that we are gonna wear him down, having to pair up with 340+ lb OTs, on down to down, series to series, game to game basis.
If we were exclusively playing a 3-4 scheme ala TJ Watt with Steelers, that would be different,

Even if Parsons' off ball coverage could be just average (mightily because he has not played much off ball and has Not been developed in NFL in that capacity)
- I think it's more necessary to better have him in that Von Miller, ..Hasson Riddick like role to better reserve him,... both short and long term.

He really improved, especially after his injury layoff.
I hope they can resign him on a reasonable deal.

He’s replaceable, and too injury prone for the position and a longer term contract. Anything over 1yr, then I’d rather take a shot at Edwards (eagles) and pair him with Clark for the next 3 seasons!
