True.......honestly, I think we will be fine defensively, especially the first couple of games, but I'm just saying it may take a few games for everything to come together. But we could have some zoners calling for CP head if they are not playing at an elite level after a few games ( you know how that goes).

Yeah I mean obviously we aren’t going to be at our very best week 1. Not many will be. You are supposed to progress as the season goes along. Whether you have new players or not.

Yeah for sure it will take a few games. There will be some awful plays I’m sure but that’s just part of the growing process. The usual culprits will be calling for his head after the first awful play.

It acts like some players - QW, Overshown, Eze - are all significant additions this offseason. That's not at all true, and they were all seeing significant snaps together for a lot of games last year.

When we're talking about the ceiling of the defense, essentially, it matters more to compare it to when those guys were actually...on the field.

This is probably true, but there's also the effect of teams not having any tape on what CP's defense actually will be that could make a difference. Between the newness of the defense and the fact that they play pretty poor offenses the first 4-5 weeks, it could look real good lol.

I think Harbaugh is going to come out swining with a simple recipe, my match up vs your match up. he doesnt need a lot, nor do you need a lot to beat Dallas. hes going to look at it from a quick fix outlook and see what best favors his team. this isnt hard. Will this work? who knows, but its the best option he has right now and it does work against bad teams. And yes until other wise, Dallas is a average team at best. So its his best shot right now.

It’s simply a week 1 vs week 1 comparison. In fact, I’d add the DC change into that as well.

It’s not meant to be too deep, just kind of a “wow from September 2025 to September 2026 a lot has happened in changing this defense.”

Whether it shows up on the field or not this season is TBD.

Hope it improves sooner, but it's unreasonable to expect everything to sync the first few weeks for a new defense.

Yea, I don't disagree with any of that. The fact that it's not deep is kind of why I think Machota is lazy (he does the same type of thing with the salary cap, too).

I just don't see how it is any more meaningful than doing this with the defense from like 2023.

Without double checking, I would argue that this amount of week 1 to week 1 turnover is rare. I doubt we’ve had this much other than Dan Quinn’s first year, but even that would warrant a similar post in my opinion.

In a vacuum yes, week 1 to week 1 lineup posting is low hanging fruit. But in these fringe cases where you have 90% turnover in a year I think it’s a solid post.
