Madden can be irritating, but i still like him most of the time. He's almost the Harry Caray of football imo.

He's never seen a Pass Interference call he's agreed with. If Michaels wasn't so pro 49er i'd probably like him.

I would prefer to hear Madden over Joe Buck. I can't stand Joe Buck. This game was a hell of a lot better than the announcers from last weeks game. I thought I was going to die they were so ********.

At one time, John Madden and Al Michaels were among the best at what they do, in my opinion at least. I'm not convinced of that anymore. Last night, their slippage was even more apparent.

Michaels: "Of course, we're here in Seattle in the Great Pacific Northwest ... north of San Francisco."

Madden: "They've got a lot of fish up here."

Michaels: "So does San Francisco, home of the 49ers."

Madden: "Mike Holmgren is one of the top five coaches in the league."

Michaels: "He used to be an assistant coach at San Francisco."

Madden: "Yep, he also used to coach Brett Favre (heart flutters). Ol' Brett ... heh heh. He loves to play the game. Heh heh."

Michaels: "So does Jerry Rice. Of course it was here on this field last year that Dallas escaped with a controversial win over Rice and the Seahawks. The touchdown to Keyshawn Johnson was dubious to say the least."

Madden: "Yep ... there was a question about Keyshawn getting his feet down. He has good feet, that guy. He probably uses tough-actin Tinactin to combat athlete's foot."

Michaels: "Rice has good feet, too. He's in Denver now .... after beginning his career with the San Francisco 49ers. He had a rather dubious stay in Oakland, too."

Madden: "Did you see Larry Allen on that play? When Larry Allen blocks someone, he blocks 'em. He's got the stuff going there ... ya know when ya get all that stuff going, it's hard to stop. He bench-presses 700 pounds."

Michaels: "Larry Allen was a rookie the year the Cowboys lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. There were no dubious calls in that game."

Madden: "700 pounds ... that's more than three Brett Favres."

Michaels: "A collision with Allen could cause an earthquake. Of course, we have those in San Francisco ... I remember the 1989 World Series when we were interrupted by an earthquake in San Francisco."

Madden: "Yep, Ol' Larry Allen could put away some fish, I bet. Although he looks more like a steak and potatoes guy to me. Another big guy who knows how to sweat and has the stuff going is Rob Pettiti."

Michaels: "Right tackle is a dubious position for the Cowboys. If Petitti doesn't work out, they may bring in former San Francisco 49er Scott Gragg."

Madden: "Yep, ol' Scott Gragg is another big guy who likes to eat. He's from Montana."

Michaels: "Speaking of Montana, former 49er Joe Montana is doing well these days."

:bang2:
:lmao2:

I needed that.

Post of the day.

Hilarious, Chief.

I don't know what Madden is gonna do when LA retires....hopefully someone else steps up to the 700 pound benching plate, so Madden can continue that particular spiel.

At one point, Al Michaels said Anthony Thomas was trying to win the backup running back position behind Shaun Alexander. Madden didn't catch it at first, but he did correct it on the sly.

I was wondering if anyone else caught that. :ralph:

It's a paycheck...like veteran players, I'm sure they have a hard time getting too excited about calling a preseason game when they don't know who most of the guys on the field in the 2nd half are.

I dont know what you people are talking about, Madden has always been this bad. I never thought he was any good. He is just a jolly fat man that people seem to love like Santa Claus or John Belushi.

I bet you aren't the only person who feels this way either. But I suspect the majority of people think Madden just isn't the same guy anymore. Of course neither am I.

another michaels error: at the end of the game when the hawks were trying to spike the ball he chastised greene for making the wide receiver run to the other side of the formation before the ball was snapped. madden correctly pointed out that if he hadnt, the hawks would have been whistled for illegal formation as the tackle would have been uncovered and wasnt an eligible receiver.

michaels covered by saying something to the effect of "unless the tackle had reported as an eligible receiver." uuuhh....yeah.

putz.
