How many receptions per game should Roy Williams be getting in your opinion?Bleu Star;2984302 said:WR Roy Williams - 8 Recs???
Cmon now... The guy has to learn how to get open consistently first. Running good routes isn't a skill that grows on trees. I'm not hating on the guy. I just recall seeing 2 or 3 receptions per game since the season started. 8 against the Broncos secondary???
:madden:
For the amount we gave up to get this guy, I'm going to be a little toasty until he becomes the RW11 that he says he is.

If Roy had held onto that alley-oop in the end zone, the ratio of his catches to Romo's attempts would put him at seven catches for 42 attempts. So eight out of 42 isn't much of a stretch.

No kidding.Bleu Star;2984513 said:As stated, If Roy gets anywhere close to 8 receptions I'll do the jig, tape it, and put it on youtube for all to see. I won't hold my breath though.
We should be running the ball down Denver's throat but we also have to have that workable passing game to compliment the run. Thank goodness for Crayton and Witten.

Of the 111 players who have as many or more total receptions as Roy Williams through the first three games, only two are averaging eight or more receptions per game:
Even if the execution of the offense improves, it's very impractical for someone to believe that this offensive scheme, which has been observed through the first three games, will target Williams that often due to the overall pass distribution. Sure, it could happen, but not likely. Sure, Wade Phillips could lose three pounds by Sunday, but that is as equally as unlikely to happen.

Expecting Roy Williams to do his job isn't "sweeping anything under the rug". Expecting him to fill someone's fantasy football quota is.Bleu Star;2984570 said:I'll be happy with 6 rec.... 3 IMO is unacceptable. However, If the stat line reads 3 rec, 80+ yds, 1 TD I'm happy. If it reads 3 rec, 25yds, 0 TD I won't be so happy. Hope that makes sense to you guys...
We gave up a lot to get this guy. If you choose to sweep that under the rug feel free. I won't though.

What he is expected to do is catch catchable passes--like the touchdown fade pass which he dropped against the Panthers. Neither the amount of his contract nor the draft picks surrendered dictate that he must catch X amount of passes for this offense to be successful.
That's a much more realistic expectation, when you consider how the offense this season, places more emphasis on moving the ball via the run between the 20's than by the pass. If the offense can become more consistent and create more redzone opportunities, all of the receivers should see more passes where it matters most.Hook'em#11;2984623 said:I would be happy with 2. And 3. As long as they are all TD receptions.
High horse?Bleu Star;2984641 said:Please get off of your high horse. You get my point... Just to clarify... I'm not expecting him to fill any fantasy quota. I was simply surprised that the simulation showed him catching 8 passes regardless of how many passes Romo threw. Whether he catches 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8... As long as they're meaningful catches and not the "barely open and forced for 5 yards" variety I am good to go. I want ROI from ROY. Kapish?

Since my expectations of roy Williams are more realistic than your own, my feet are thus firmly planted on the ground.
"Whether he catches 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8..."
Will your show horse end up doing a foxtrot if Roy catches seven or less meaningful catches? I doubt that he could pull off doing a jig if Williams nabs eight of 'em! :
:laugh2:Bleu Star;2984666 said:Yeah.. very realistic for a guy that we mortgaged the house to get... gotcha.
Our running game should reign supreme. Not only because we have one of the best RB trios in the NFL right now.. also because we should have a WR that commands extra attention at all times to open up the running game by keeping that extra coverage out of the box. Then, when we have to go to the pass, that guy should get open at will... The closest we have to that is Patrick Crayton.
ROI on ROY...
