Irvin would thrive in the 70s. That physical style of play would be perfect for him.
Irvin and Chris Carter could have played in the 70's because they were big physical players but the finese wr's wouldn't have gotten off the line without being jacked up.

I don't know about that.... Irvin was pretty physical and would have prob done just as well in the 70's maybe even better with his style....

wr's had to do a lot more adjusting to the ball due to getting bumped off the route, having to deal with bumping, tugging of jersey while ball in the air and other distracting things.

The main thing is that wr's with great concentration could play under those circumstances.

Earl Campbell would not make the all 70s team. He played in only 78 and 79. Guys like Franco Harris, Larry Czonka and Walter Payton played more years and I am leaving several off the list.

Did you hear him saying that he thinks the "busts" talk about football with each other when everyone leaves ?

Out there.

I understand your point, but don't you think Irvin and Rice would be able to handle the increased contact? I certainly do. Irvin would probably initiate the contact! Guys like Swann and Pearson could handle it, so why couldn't the 90's studs?
Simply because of size and speed, the 90's team would annihilate the 70's team (as great as those guys were).

Again, it's all relative.

If you're going to match up a mythical game, you have to grant everyone a level playing field. Meaning give players of the past the same access to conditioning and training, or, taking those advantages away from present players.

This brings talent, ability, and heart to the forefront.....the real measuring sticks in a debate of players present/past.

If you don't, it's a baseless comparison, much like racing a NASCAR driver of today against someone from 40 years ago, best machine wins.
