Given all the talk about the safety position this offseason with Byron Jones moving to corner. Knowing that Jourdan Lewis is not as big as Kris Richard would like for a cornerback. Why have we not heard any entertainment of the idea of moving Jourdan Lewis to free safety and still letting him work as a slot corner?

Bryan: They haven’t thought about moving him because there still is a chance, as you mentioned, for him to be the nickel corner full time. In my opinion he’s a better player than Anthony Brown and by the end of training camp they might believe the same. The one guy they have moved from corner to safety is rookie Kam Kelly, who looked uncomfortable playing corner in OTAs.

*David: *I’m not interested in moving him because I think he’s a damn good cornerback. It’s completely possible he’s the best corner on this team, in my opinion. When it’s all said and done, I expect that he’s going to find a starting spot somewhere. Not to mention: this team currently has fantastic cornerback depth, and I don’t want to get rid of it. If you need another safety, go sign one. There are plenty out there. No need to deplete the cornerback depth chart.

Leave him at corner, he will get lots of snaps to make plays and I'm confident that he will. Yes he will lose the occasional jump ball but that could also happen at the safety position. Jourdan Lewis will be a top cover man and he will make more plays than not.

I'm having trouble understanding why Anthony Brown is getting the starting reps over J.Lew. It can't be solely because of height they are only 1-1/2 inches apart and wingspans almost identical, and can't be because of seniority since they are only a year apart. It's definitely not a difference in skill as I think it's pretty obvious who's better. Anyone find any specifics on the reason they are going with Brown over J.Lew? Heck Brown even plays his best as the 4th corner. Richard can't be that stuck on height can he?

Agreed! He doesn't need to be flexed. He's done a brilliant job at his current spot. I think he's a stupendous CB, and we don't need to be creating more holes to fit other holes.

It’s OTA

Is Richard now doing the same thing that Marinelli does with the 1T or what?

They play Lewis with the 2nd team because he practices at both outside and nickel CB. At outside CB he is not going to practice with the 1st team as of now. It's just more convenient in the practice rotation to keep him with that 2nd group when he moves to nickel (slot) CB.

Good write-up by Dave. JD will be starting on the outside. If not, Richard has issue with CBs under 6 foot no matter how good they are. Hope he's not stuck in the system.

It's OTAs, a place to to give guys a chance to see what they can do. The tape doesn't lie and I like the fact the corners have to earn a spot. Lewis and Brown will become better players because of it

I am confused, Jordan is a fantastic up and coming corner that we can all agree on. If he' currently 4th string. Isn't that a good thing. Doesn' that say something about Brown improving.

I remember when we thought Claiborne had a good end to his rookie season and was going to be the best CB on the team moving forward.

It's OTAs and MC so far. No pads or hitting. Vanilla **** so far. Depth chart means very little.

I get the feeling they know Lewis is good & they are just trying to get the other guys as much work as possible so Richard can make a good assessment of the talent heading into camp. Almost anything could be in play here so I wouldn't take it at face value.
