News: Mailbag: Jourdan Lewis

So just because its OTA's you have to play the worse guy?
OTA is about seeing guys, seeing what they do best
Lewis is going to be either the starter outside or nickle. He’s gonna be playing
There is very little “playing” in OTA
No contact
He’s getting reps and will be on the field plenty this year
Personally I like him outside and slide to slot in nickle and that could be what happens. But he will at least be the nickle CB

OTA's are a learning affair. Teams teach how things are going to be done and what is going on during a play.

It's supposed to be a learning experience for the players and a time where teams start evaluating talent and direction. It's a formulative time, and for benefit of dynamics to be developed.

It's the start of team interactions.

That could happen. Remember when safety Darren Woodson moved to the slot?
.

Given all the talk about the safety position this offseason with Byron Jones moving to corner. Knowing that Jourdan Lewis is not as big as Kris Richard would like for a cornerback. Why have we not heard any entertainment of the idea of moving Jourdan Lewis to free safety and still letting him work as a slot corner?

Bryan: They haven’t thought about moving him because there still is a chance, as you mentioned, for him to be the nickel corner full time. In my opinion he’s a better player than Anthony Brown and by the end of training camp they might believe the same. The one guy they have moved from corner to safety is rookie Kam Kelly, who looked uncomfortable playing corner in OTAs.

*David: *I’m not interested in moving him because I think he’s a damn good cornerback. It’s completely possible he’s the best corner on this team, in my opinion. When it’s all said and done, I expect that he’s going to find a starting spot somewhere. Not to mention: this team currently has fantastic cornerback depth, and I don’t want to get rid of it. If you need another safety, go sign one. There are plenty out there. No need to deplete the cornerback depth chart.

Im interested to see what kam Kelly can do.

Woodson was special
Most safeties aren’t quick enough to play the slot
Lewis is
Woodson was

What you said is true but the point I was making is that a starter could move to play the slot when the offense puts one on the field. They don't have to have a designated slot corner sitting on the bench. Now that also could cause a problem if an offense uses a slot receiver often, then I would have a designated slot corner so the best corner would still be playing a wide receiver if there's a slot on the field often.

It certainly sounds like the days of cushion are gone; the day of 5 yards off at most are in. Press for 5 yards and stick to receiver holding the right to your space and forcing the receiver to go where you know he's going is in.

That means the best CBs in the previous system aren't necessarily the best CBs in this system. Everyone will compete; whoever can play the system the new coach wants the best is going to play the most.

I agree
But I think they like Lewis a lot and plan on him playing
Personally I like him outside but he will at least be the nickle guy
He’s a good player who will get even better and he supports the run well
