Brian Schottenheimer is still a rookie coach, so mistakes are expected, and on the road, they continue to plague Dallas. The team was way too conservative on offense and defense. The perfect example of this on offense was before the half, when the team was already down two scores and settled for a field goal without even attempting to draw them offside. They didn’t even fake the play to run down the clock. The second Aubrey was coming on the field, Lions head coach Dan Campbell called a timeout, and his offense then had time to drive for a field goal in the final minute.

yeah well one of those SB teams looks pretty mediocre and the other is in a slump.

there are a lot of problems with this team, but Schottenheimer is not yet one of them. he has what it takes.

Jimmy's first year was 1-15. 2nd year 7-9.

Until Jerry quits making silly decisions in the offseason, nothing will change.
If he worked for any other owner as GM he would have been fired several times over the last 30 years.

I agree, most likely unless we get really lucky.

My beef is with Jerry, not Shotty.
However the premier sports team in the world should have the absolute best coaching.
Not someone learning on the job.

Schotty is fine. He's a solid coach maybe even really good. Eberflus is terrible. I have some hope for next year if we nail the draft on the defense. Offense is perfectly fine if we can run it back.

The problem is that the guy Schotty replaced won 12 games in three of the four seasons he was HC.

6-6-1 is looking like a downgrade so far..........dare I say, 6-6-1 is looking very Jason Garrett-esk.

You know, there are some moments in games that we can go back and say, "that was dumb" for a playcall or decision to go for it etc...
But that happens to every team. Andy Reid just made on of those decisions last night.

I honestly didn't set any expectations this year. Schotty knew Jerry was going to be in the driver seat and still took the gig, so he didn't pick his DC and his DC had his entire offseason plan ripped away in August.
Jerry of course rectified it a bit with the Williams trade, but by then, we were already gashed by teams like the Panthers...

I believe the quality of coaches is important, but there's also talent needed.
Jimmy Johnson couldn't coach up a bad team to a championship level.
It took hitting on Aikman, getting lucky with Emmitt still being there, having Irvin from the Landry draft and well having the keen eye for the offensive line-for the offense to hum.
Defensively, they had some talent in all three areas.

The Cowboys operating procedure has been to solely rely on the draft for talent. Some years it works out, others it does not. Then when you factor in injuries, sudden regression or a FA class that walks, you can have wild swings in positions that may take years to rebuild, only to have the above "vicious cycle" continue.

I can't blame Schotty for the Parsons trade, taking away their best passrusher-key for a bland defense that only sends 4, with basic zone coverages. I can't blame BS for having Mazi potentially as the starting 1 tech. Nor him for the disaster at LB for most of the year, or the front office going into the season knowing Diggs and Revel wouldn't be at 100% to start.Nor the safety position being long in the tooth, and nothing done.
Offensively, they gave him Pickens and took Booker, so, less issues there and that's his "expertise". For the most part, the offense has been good outside of a few games.

He’s not learning on the job. He’s been coaching for 26 years most of it in the NFL.

Yeah.... The 10-6 year and the two 9-7 years with Parcells and those three 12-5 years with McCarthy was just Terrible.... Horrible..... Let's not talk about the Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett years. Seriously? I mean I get it, Post season tells you how good teams really are. It's been 30 (plus) years since we've been to the Superbowl but I think the melodramaticness of some fans are something else....
