Major Takeaways: Cowboys coaching, including Schottenheimer, at blame

yeah well one of those SB teams looks pretty mediocre and the other is in a slump.

Well we made one team look pretty mediocre and we made the other team look like they were in a slump. Odds makers all around the country had us losing those games, but we balled out and won them.

Those were two of the previous Superbowl teams earlier this calendar year before we played them, so the excuses can go THAT way. ----->

Respectfully....

You know, there are some moments in games that we can go back and say, "that was dumb" for a playcall or decision to go for it etc...
But that happens to every team. Andy Reid just made on of those decisions last night.
A lot of posters here don't watch games outside of the Cowboys. They seem to think every other team is perfect and the issues we see with the Cowboys are specific to only them.

Shotty has been good. It's really not his fault he was given Eberflus to run the worst D unit in the league.

Coaching decisions were the most significant reason the team lost

Brian Schottenheimer is still a rookie coach, so mistakes are expected, and on the road, they continue to plague Dallas. The team was way too conservative on offense and defense. The perfect example of this on offense was before the half, when the team was already down two scores and settled for a field goal without even attempting to draw them offside. They didn’t even fake the play to run down the clock. The second Aubrey was coming on the field, Lions head coach Dan Campbell called a timeout, and his offense then had time to drive for a field goal in the final minute.
I was talking about this in the game thread. Campbell didn’t call TO til Aubrey ran on the field. Bush league by Schottenheimer, but it’s way down the list of reasons we lost.

This, when the D can’t stop anyone and the O had 9 points in the 3rd quarter, there’s your lost right there.

But I read on here last week that Schotty is really impressive, and should be Coach of the Year......this place is insufferable at times

Coaching has been the second most significant reason this team has failed. I’d say first would be early season form of the defense.

Snotty and Eberfluke have been anything but impressive.

Before the Detroit game members lauding Shotty with flowers. After game he's a bad coach a disaster. The game lost in the trenches and and want to.They kicked our butts. Not to mention just a better team.

Jerry thinks he has time to let a rookie head coach figure it out and get a couple seasons under his belt.

I think he’s going to take that mistake to the grave.

I think Schotty bought into the myth that the Cowboys defense was fixed after the previous 3 games. That's why Schottenheimer decided to kick the FG instead of going for the first down. I think he thought his Defense would step up in the 2nd half. The Lions had other ideas scoring on 4 of their last 5 drives. The only time they didn't score was when Sam Williams blocked their FG attempt or it might have been 5 of 5.

The fact is, no one player is going to make a defense good. Defense has to be about teamwork, even more so than offense. On defense a single weak link can be exploited and that is what Detroit did. They took advantage of the Cowboys poor linebacking and the rookie CB Revel, and made him look silly in the process. Lesson to be learned, never believe your own hype which is what the Cowboys do all the time.

6-6-1. I see 8 losses. Shottenheimer has been a disaster.
I would not say disaster. Honestly he has been better than I expected but given the owner .. it is what it is. finishing at or near 500 with this defense is not bad.

That's a 8-8-1 season. Why am I better that is higher than you predicted?

And that "disaster" of a HC just beat both super bowl teams back to back.
They won't make the playoffs again with a $60MM QB. Lost the biggest must win game of the year at home vs a backup. One of the most penalized teams in the league. 30 plus years of futility. It's a disaster.

Disagree totally. We still need much help in the secondary. Blame Jerry, not Shotty. Eberflus has been a disaster in every way shape and form. He can't seem to adapt to the situation.

Campbell was calling a TO no matter who we ran out there. I'll take the FG getting the ball at half.

The coaching that cost us was Ebersoft's defense and our special teams

I thought his Clock field management was actually pretty darn good. Specifically what makes you think he was a disaster.

There were a lot of people angry we didn’t get Aaron Glenn. I follow the Jets and I can tell you there are a lot of them that are unhappy with their coaching.

Some also wanted Pete Carroll. How’s that working out?

Schottenheimer has a better record than Andy Reid right now.
