i, too, don't get the resentment towards haley. drugs? nope. sex offender? nada. wife beater? nuh-uh. vehicular manslaughter? noooop. concealed weapons charges? negatory. held out under existing contract? naaah. jaywalking? not that i'm aware of. spitting on sidewalk? ....

so what was his crime?

when it came down to game day - who was more prepared than haley? he was "the straw that stirred the drink" on defense. almost a decade later we have yet to see anybody come close to replacing him in dallas.
So why all the antipathy?

Was he surly with fans? Refuse to talk to the press or something?

Haley was absolutely crazy in general.
Teammates didn't talk to him.
He was scary intense.
He didnt do interviews because reporters were scared of them.

In the end tho, he did his job here.

In San Fran the stuff he did to get traded is legendary to the point it was copied in some movies.

He did detail a fairly serious addiction to painkillers in his book, All the Rage.

Ahh, thanks JT.

Just your ordinary, run-of-the-mill, everyday, personality-challenged great defensive lineman.

my favorite cowboys
1 Woodson
2. Haley
3. Lett
4. Allen
5. E. Jones

And the hate of Haley, I don't understand. He could be a jerk, but he didn't like to be messed with or manipulated which I understand. However, I don't remember him destructing the team and he did get Lett and others to play to their potential which probably wouldn't have happened without him. He was a major plus to our team. Sometimes u have to have some hatred to play up to the level of his talent.

Different strokes... some people just hate abrasive personalities... if the list category had anything to do with skill I'm sure Haley would have made it... it, however, was not

5. Biggest Meltdowns in Sports

1. N.O. Saints trading ALL of their draft picks for Ricky *weed* Williams
2. Vikings trading 14 draft picks for Hershel Walker
3. Cowboys trading 2 1st rd draft picks for Joey *I can't catch or stay healthy* Galloway

Can't forget those moments in History. Historical blunders for those teams.

thanks JT. i was unaware of haley's addiction. could any of that be attributed to his ongoing back problems?

insofar as haley being "absolutely crazy".... i think a stronger case could be made for that diagnosis applying to rafael septien, lance rentzel, duane thomas, alonzo spellman, dimitrius underwood, leon lett, erik williams, and even (at one time) michael irvin. i'm omitting names from a pretty extensive list. add switzer and duane goodrich while you're at it.

haley was never destined to win a "mr. popularity" contest. but i guess i'm just a fan who values performance over personality. it's not even close. haley was a warrior and always packed a lunch and a punch. maybe not an affable character but i never doubted his total commitment to team success.

gimme a dozen of him.

Once again, I'm fairly sure that list had absolutely nothing to do with performance... everybody values performance over personality (for the most part), which is why it was a a list about personality... I'm sure if there was a list made by the author about said performance than Haley would be on it, but "least favorite" doesn't have to have anything to do with performance, or whether or not he wanted him on the Cowboys, for that matter

nothing wrong with JMU grads, only 2 of note, Charles Haley and Gary Clark. A lot of players are just a$$holes anyways, Haley is not really different there, but he played well when he was on the field.

...did Rome ever consider apologizing to Chris Evert at all? There's no doubt what the insinuation was to knowledgeable sports fans. For one of the greatest female players to ever take the tennis racket I would expect him to also issue her an apology for the low handed remark.
I never heard her opinion on it one way or the other.

You do remember we lost that game right?

Prior to that loss Dallas had never lost a game that Tony D went for 100+ and I think only lost 3 in his entire career here.

Hostile, you might want to rethink that one.

Dorsett's 99-yard run came on January 2, 1983 - the final week of the 1982 regular season.

In the 1980 season, Dallas lost a 38-35 contest to the Giants in the Meadowlands where Dorsett ran for like 183 yards.

This, I believe, was the first time Dallas lost a game when Tony D ran for and exceeded the century mark.

I'll double check. I used to have great faith we would win when he broke the century mark.
