Malik Collins' improvement

If current trends continue, look for DT Malik Collins to have a huge game vs the Giants. Being early retired, I have the time to go back over Cowboys games & slow-mo my DVR to watch individual players & their impact on the games. Collins has continued to up his play each game this season. Versus the Vikings, he was in the backfield at least 10 times. He either hurried or was part of sacking the QB 6 times. That is why he has been starting lately. The kid has honed several moves, including a spin, arm over, & club move to free himself from his blocker. When we can get pressure up the middle, the QB either has to hurry his throw, or eat the ball. He can't step up. Along with McClain, Irving, & Thorton, Collins & Co. have given our defense an interior presence it hasn't had in years. All we need now is more pressure from the edges, & this defense can be dangerous.

Pressure up the middle is what is needed to disrupt Eli. He doesn't move much, so putting pressure in his face works the best. The Steelers did a good job of it last week.

Sadly, we haven't pressured Eli his entire career. He's had some of his best games against the Cowboys and it's largely due to lack of pressure.

Pressure up the middle all day over the edge if I had to choose.
Absolutely. Pressure up the middle means the QB is forced out to the sides where they will have to throw on the run.

Pressure off the edges is good too but a QB is more likely to step up in the pocket and laser one over the middle.

I hope Collins can keep improving this year as he has done well. I am waiting for DLaw to really make an impact and have his breakout game finally.

Absolutely.

Collins has been only okay at it though. It is kind of harsh to expect a Geno Atkins or something though.

Very hard to tell especially since the edges are so weak.

He seems like a really serious mean dude. He was on the postgame a few weeks ago with brad and babe and it was like the clubber lang interview in rocky 3. They couldn't get him to really say much. Looks like a mean guy.

I'd like nothing better than to see Maliek get a couple of sacks on Eli vs. NY but it's extremely difficult vs. NY's OL and Eli's quick release. Nevertheless, his improvement has been gratifying since he's just a rookie and very likely to improve his game with further development.

Demarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford have been gradually stepping up their games the last two weeks. Here's hoping it'll continue.
They won't necessarily be obliged to get sacks, although if they manage to get consistent pressure on opposing QBs, it could be helpful.

The pressure we have been producing up the middle is one of the reasons I wish we had a young Demarcus W. and a CONTRAT year Anthony S. smh
