Yes, Collins is good. He has started 10 games. He was good against the run from the beginning but has continually improved as a pass rusher. If current trends continue, look for DT Malik Collins to have a huge game vs the Giants. Being early retired, I have the time to go back over Cowboys games & slow-mo my DVR to watch individual players & their impact on the games. Collins has continued to up his play each game this season. Versus the Vikings, he was in the backfield at least 10 times. He either hurried or was part of sacking the QB 6 times. That is why he has been starting lately. The kid has honed several moves, including a spin, arm over, & club move to free himself from his blocker. When we can get pressure up the middle, the QB either has to hurry his throw, or eat the ball. He can't step up. Along with McClain, Irving, & Thorton, Collins & Co. have given our defense an interior presence it hasn't had in years. All we need now is more pressure from the edges, & this defense can be dangerous.
Nolan Nawrocki's assessment of Collins in his 2016 NFL Draft Preview was as follows: "A quick, active one-gap penetrator most ideally suited to shoot gaps as a 3-technique in a "40" front. Ability to consistently create pressure is his calling card". "Scout's take": "Is a bit undersized, but is powerful. Reminded me a lot of DT Gerald McCoy when he was a sophomore. I saw him live in the fall, & it looked like he had some ankle issues. That could be why his production was down from a year ago". Indeed, it was. Our guy is getting healthier & is shooting gaps and mucking up the works in the backfield, which is what I love most about him.Yes, Collins is good. He has started 10 games. He is finally that big body DT (311 pounds) that some of us have wanted for a long time.
The Cowboys have been smallish a DT going back to the Wade Phillips days with Ratliff. Josh Brent was the 1 big body they've had and he didn't have Collins' type quickness.
Good writeup. Collins was my 2nd ranked DT in the draft.Nolan Nawrocki's assessment of Collins in his 2016 NFL Draft Preview was as follows: "A quick, active one-gap penetrator most ideally suited to shoot gaps as a 3-technique in a "40" front. I'm not saying that Collins/Brown are first round caliber players BUT...as rookies, they've been playing on that level.
We have FOUR players playing to the level you expect a first round pick to play at or more.
Been waiting for a chance to bring this up. I think Collins is having an impact because he's one of the few guys playing DL for us that isn't undersized.
Compare our OL to our DLine. Why is it that 75% of our DLinemen are under 285? We don't have a single offensive lineman under 300 pounds. 6 of 9 DLine players are at 285 or under. Is this simply Marinelli's preference at play here?
One reason we struggle to get pressure is likely that most of the guys we have rushing the passer are outweighed by 25 pounds or more.
Tyron Smith: 320
Zack Martin: 310
Travis Frederick: 318
Ronald Leary: 320
Doug Free: 318
La'el Collins: 321
Chaz Green: 300
Joe Looney: 315
Emmett Cleary : 324
Jack Crawford: 288
DeMarcus Lawrence: 270
Benson Mayowa: 240
Charles Tapper: 271
Tyrone Crawford: 285
David Irving: 273
Maliek Collins: 311
Terrell McClain: 302
Cedric Thornton: 309
That is not a typo. Mayowa is listed officially at 240.

Mayowa at 240? Wow....I have a cousin bigger than that;....... and she would probably have 10 sacks by now, with 5 TFL and 3 FF.
She may have a slow 40 time, but she has a quick first step and is a great trash talker.
Hopefully not lol.You here all week?
Don't forget it was the Vikings oline
But he is doing better, I just don't expect he'll have the same perf
If we drafted him in the 2nd round with the level he has been playing at, there would be no complaints. Before he was drafted I said I saw a lot of Kris Jenkins in him. To me, he plays with the same combination of power and speed. I believe his ceiling is just below Aaron Donald. He's that good.I'm not saying that Collins/Brown are first round caliber players BUT...as rookies, they've been playing on that level.

Please eradicate that statement from your mentality. That is the Commanders mantra.Just wait until next year.
With Pugh reportedly not playing this week.. I like Collins to have a big game.
