Jeff Heath was all straight-line speed, he couldn't cut and recover. Similar to severely overpaid Jaylon Smith.

Really?

Jeff Heath ran a 4.40 coming out of college. He frequently showed his speed on the field, hence when he caught the Raiders' QB Carr at the goal line and forced him to lose the ball into the end zone for a touchback a few years back.

Malik Hooker never timed better than a mid 4.5s because he's always been injured. Hard to say he can cover better in a single Safety high Cover 3 than a faster Jeff Heath.

Plus...

Jeff Heath has 11 career interceptions.

Malik Hooker has 7 career interceptions.
Hooker has played in 36 games. Heath 119.

Lol what? When healthy it isn’t even a close comparison.

One was a first round pick and the other was an UDFA. Heath is/was a marginal starter at best. Special teams stud is what he does best.

Only thing Heath does better is the ability to stay on the field.

Heath - 119 games played with 11 picks

Hooker - 36 games with 7 picks.

So an additional 83 games for 4 more picks. That’s over 5 seasons lmao

You're just trolling to troll with this lol

He was nothing like Smith in terms of sunk cost or bad play. Heath was a special teamer who was afforded too many opportunities over his head. That is on the staff.

This news comes a day after Jerry said he'd do anything to win an SB. This is it, baby. While other teams draft quality safeties, some even sign quality safeties early on in the free-agent process...not your Cowboys...we shop the bargain bin...yes sir. Can you hear the super bowl calling jerry?

How many Super Bowl winning teams since 1995 had a top 5 paid RB on the roster? Going to hazard a guess at...zero.

These ex-NFL very good players recently (last year) were singing praises for Jeff Heath...

The same Jeff Heath who lit it up for several years prior for the Cowboys...

I'll take Jeff Heath over the over-rated, oft-injured Malik Hooker today. Cowboys should call and talk to Heath.

If Spagnola were true to the slogan he made famous, Hooker fits.

Injury is one reason he is available. But why are the Colts, who have poor safeties too, not lifting a finger to bring him back? They would rather just roll with George Odum.

I am okay with giving it a shot. I am not going to read more into it than that.

Nope, right now he's just another retread they're throwing at the safety position in hopes of finding a cheap fix and looking smarter than everyone else. If it works out, great. If not, it's pretty much the expected result at this point.

Like Stephen Jones says, talent acquisition is a 365 day a year job.

It’s another ‘Jones Special’ where they roll the dice on a former star player whose value has dropped for whatever fill-in-the-blank reason(s). Maybe it will pay off? Maybe it won’t?

It most likely won't lol. At least he has 1st round pedigree.

Odds are likely against it, but there have been some reclamation projects that have paid off as well. It may just buy us a year until Israel Mukuamu makes the conversion and becomes the future free safety.

Jeff Heath has 11 career interceptions.

Malik Hooker has 7 career interceptions.

Heath has been in the league twice as long and only has 4 more interceptions (8 years to 4 years). Is that what you are alluding to there?

Come on man, if you are going to throw a stat out, at least give it the right context.

Jeff Heath - 119 games, 11 career interceptions
Malik Hooker - 36 games, 7 career interceptions

I will give you he is healthier, and a better special teams player.
