Mana Silva released

That is possible, However they are not going to release Chris Jones they like him and plan on him being around for a while. I do think if Silva clears waviers he will be brought back in.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating cutting Jones either.

I just think that there were better candidates who could have been released.

These continuing 'fixes' for special teams have not impressed me so far.

I would have released one of those 'contributors' before Silva.

Or Dockery, who looks washed up and useless to me.

There may have been but I don't know which guys would be eligible to go to the PS I'm sure that played a part.

He's doing pretty freakin well for his first season. The blocked punt clearly wasn't on him.

Yeah, it looked like it was on 52, who should be @ the 54 spot IMO.

i think we're going to see a lot of carr at safety for the rest of the year. people better get used to it b/c this team still likes jenkins abilities and want all of them on the field together on passing downs.

Silva is a journeyman in the least complimentary way. He is a worker hired to temp for another. I do like him but there are more Silva's out there.

As they should.

Sure, it was Jerry that decided to release Silva.

I'm sure Jerry just walked up to Ryan and said, "I'm letting Silva go Rob."

And Rob just said, "Damn, he's been playing well for us. This is going to hurt. Terrible timing too with Church out now. Oh well, these things happen."

:laugh1:

I think the hard part to understand is if Mana is worse than the new guy they just signed this week? Then why didnt they make that move sooner?

If Mana is at least the same as the new guy, why not just keep Mana as he knows the systems better and has had playing time already?

Sometimes I these roster moves (Like Frank Walker last year) just seem panic driven or trying to over think some of this.

Maybe they think Matt Johnson will really contribute this year.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. I guess they needed more time to evaluated him.

Queue the overreaction crowd... He was an average at best safety folks.
I don't think that word means what you think it means. Average players don't get cut unless they're making too much money and backing up stars.

An average safety would be a tremendously valuable asset. Other than Sensy, it's pretty clear we don't have anything remotely close to an average safety on the roster.

Yea average is too much of a compliment for Silva. Not saying he isn't but we've seen NOTHING from him to even consider him average. I can't even believe people in this thread suggested we should cut Chris Jones over him. Cut a starter for a guy who has done NOTHING. People get caught up in Silva's speed and thinks he's a Polamalu starter kit. No....

Stupid move by the boys! Silva has a lot of raw talent and the tools to become a starting safety! He just needs a little more experience/ playing time. The dude is always trying to make a play on the ball!

Say it ain't so, we let go of the All-Pro talent of Silva.

Unbelieveable the mistakes Jerry makes, we will rue the day....

Ok, seriously, he was a JAG like you say and like most guys we have at the position.
