Manning can't win the big game...

Huh? I said stay in his face. That means doing just as you pointed out. We don't disagree, we agree.

Your right. I was reading something else at the time.

Go Bears

I disagree a bit.

The Defensive Coordinator was EXTREMELY aggressive against Peyton Manning. Bringing at least 4-5 Guys on every play.

He saw it the way I saw it.

What is the difference between Manning picking your Soft Zone apart for 30 to 40 yards

And...

Picking you apart when you go Zero Coverage.

I rather get beat going Zero Coverage and Blitzing the crap out of Manning, then just sit back there in a Soft Quarters Zone, rushing 3 Lineman and dying a slow death.

The Steelers' DC got very passive in the 3rd and 4th Quarter and allowed Manning to comeback. But at the end, he remember what held them to 3 Points in the 1st Half and started blitzing him again.

...passing offence you need to have guys who can blanket the receivers. In the absence of that roster, then you need pressure up front.

If you had Madison, Surtain from three years ago along with Henry and Newman, then I would play a three man line all day and challenge the QB to get it in, but with the roster we have I would go pressure most of the time.

he was still about 22-38 for 290 yards. Not to shabby to be laying on his back most of the game and at least he showed some balls going for it on fourth down, more than I can say for his head coach.

The Steelers also dropped 2-3 SURE INT's as well. Say what you will. Fact is....here we are again, saying THE EXACT SAME THING about Peyton Manning each year at this time. It is what it is..........the usual.

I wouldnt.

With all the "Pro" offensive calls in Today's NFL, Corners are not the biggest factor but the Defensive Lineman (in a 4-3) or Linebackers (in a 3-4).

The way I see it, you could have 4 Deion's in the Backfield against Manning, and if you come out in Zones in Quarters Defense, he is still going to pick you a part. He is a Hall of Fame Quarterback, all he needs to do is get older and retire, he is a shoe-in, he is that good at slicing a defense up.

Oh and if you come out with that 3 down lineman approach, Edgerin James and the Stretch play will eat you alive.

I take my chances blitzing with or without great players. Actually, Having the Corners you mentioned would make my decison to blitz even easier because they can play Mono-Y-Mono.

Well, I'm sayin' it again.

He threw some REALLY bad passes today.

You know Sarge, I would disagree with you year after year. Not this year. Not that I would not take Manning on the Boys in a heart beat and not think twice about it.

But Yeah, the pressure was on him and he did not get it done. Getting it done is the bottom line and he has not done it yet.

This to me is another example of why Troy Aikman must be a lock for the HOF and considered one of the best QBs of all time. He flat got it done.

Lets not pretend that poor Manning did not have an all star cast around him and Aikman did. Bottom line is, when the playoffs are in play there are no excuses.

It should make every fan appreciate how good of a QB Aikman was, but unfortunately there are too many yahoos who dont see gaudy numbers therefore come to the conclusion that Aikman was an average QB.

as bad as i hate to admit it,i have to agree with manning not being able to win the big game.i watched him in college and rooted for the vols, but everytime he played florida he couldn't get it done.now it is new england and pittsburg in the pros.peyton reminds me alot of dan marino, looks great during the regular season but can't get it done in the playoffs.i still hope before peyton retires he at least wins one superbowl ring. :starspin

...four superior coverage DBs (not zone DBs) leaves you still with 7 men to play the run and the pass straight up without ever having to engage the DBs in exotic blitzes. Blanket coverage on anything up to four receivers (including the TE) would be unheard of in the league. But it would be a start to an amazing defence. One I think who would negate Manning altogether.

I am with you right there. I have been saying since his Tennessee days. Now, mind you, I like Manning, at least among the QB that year, but every year a different excuse as to why Manning failed in Playoffs.

I am sure there will be excuses as I see in this thread about why he failed. I was telling my buddy, in bar today, watch Peyton's Body language as things start going wrong and you know why he is a loser in big games.

...Mr Happy Feet and Mr. Frantic Eyes.

The Steeler D set the tone at the beginning of the game. Manning was rushing his throws even when he was not being rushed.

Throw him a different wrinkle and he cannot cope w/it.

When I saw how the Steelers DC had a great game plan for the Colts and got pressure all day on him....it just makes me wonder why are we even wasting time with Zimmer. Get ridda the moron and get Capers. Caper can give us a D like what the Steelers have.

How many times have I said this on this board. Tom Brady is better than Peyton Manning when you judge them on Tangibles as well as Intangibles.

Brady had a bad night last night, but he has proven he is a winner.

When Peyton plays a great defense, he gets shell shocked.

Everyone said Peyton just neeeded a defense and he had one this year.

I will go even a step farther than that... doesnt even have to be a great defense... just pressure him and he is done. He reads the line and defenses really well. But bust him in the mouth and pressure him and he is mush.

dude made some great throws toward the end of the game, hardly mush.

What happened today with Manning is what happens to any QB who gets enough pressure in his face. Everybody jumps all over Bledsoe cause he needs good OL to protect him, well so does Manning and all other QBs. Brady's off day yesterday was caused by opponents getting in his face.

And now Manning throws his O-line under the bus in the press conference....

It's Manning's SALARY that will keep that team from winning it all. I said it when he re-signed and it still holds true today.

It's not that they couldn't win it all, they could, but when you sign for that much money, that leaves ALOT less for their defense.
