At this point , adding Johnny Football would not have any effect on the team. It would have a big effect on the fans, which would provide endless entertainment. If the kid has his life together, he could be a decent player. Maybe even a good player. After Romo, the QB position stinks in Dallas. I had hope for Vaughan, but he seems to be having trouble getting snaps. Weeden is not worth discussing.
I disagree. For starters, trading for him costs a draft pick, thus it does have an effect. I don't know what Cleveland would want, I think they'd love a 3rd maybe even a 4th, not sure if they'd do a 5th, but either way I'm not interested. Then there's the cost of actually having Manziel that you have to consider. Under Jerry Jones this team has drafted 5 QBs and that includes Steve Walsh in the supplemental draft (does not include Isaiah Stanback). And while I'm not a part of the crowd that clamors for us to take a QB every year, I do think we should be open to taking one if "the right one" falls to us. And having Manziel on the roster, probably means we would not consider taking a QB.
To me, it's just a waste of time attempting to develop him. As of now, he has yet to show he is serious about being an NFL QB, and even if he was serious from day 1, the odds are stacked against him. He isn't use to working with a playbook or working through progressions. Those are two major red flags. Then you look at him physically and quite frankly, he's an average athlete. Above average for a QB, but clearly nothing special. I don't think anyone claims Derek Carr is a great athlete, but his work out numbers are nearly the same. People want to point at Russell Wilson and say being under 6 feet didn't hurt him, but Manziel isn't even as good of an athlete as Wilson, who still isn't what I would call an elite athlete.
