Marcel Dareus or Snacks Harrison?

With the money we saved from releasing McCoy, don’t see why we wouldn’t sign one of these two space-eaters. As was noted in other threads, Snacks actually lives in Dallas. If we don’t sign one, it might mean that the coaches have growing confidence in Trysten Hill and/or Neville Gallimore.

Both these players are way past their primes. We have two quality 1 Tech's already on the roster, with 2 young prospects who can play either spot. There is no need for either player.

A couple of things.

Harrison is a true 1Tech so he'd be competing with Dontari Poe for reps, not replacing McCoy's departed 3Tech reps.

Dareus seems like the biggest name out there but some real concerns there. He's played 58 out of a possible 80 games the past 5 years. He's got character and medical concerns.

This is the Front Office's chance to prove everyone wrong about their decision to (over) pay Tyrone Crawford and (over)draft Trysten Hill.

Cliff notes: Finding a 3Tech will be a priority in the off-season.

I'd look at the bottom teams in the league and see if I could turn a late (or conditional) Day 3 pick into a player who could contribute now.

Possibilities:
Jacksonville, Taven Bryan
Jacksonville, Tim Jernigan (they just signed him off the street)
Carolina, Kawan Short

I don't know if the Bears would give him up, but someone I've been monitoring since his UTEP days is Roy Robertson-Harris. Not as twitchy, but at 6'5" 292 lbs., he kind of reminds me of David Irving.

Speaking of David Irving....

Huh? Maybe?

Short would excellent IF he's released, no trade. Still has 2 years left on the huge deal he signed few years ago.

How about we roll with who we have. Why do fans always want to sign some big name and most of them has been or give up the farm for a player.

I think fans recall dallas getting gashed in the run game up front.

If we acquire Taven Bryan Marinelli will randomly appear at the star and claim he's the DL coach.

its interesting that people keep wanting a guy who play a different position in harrison to replace McCoy. I guess some think we are playing the old bears front or something.

Also why do people keep bringing up david irving. This is an entirely different coaching staff who more than likely has a list of players they will be watching when league wide cuts are made.

Short is the most intriguing name on the list and was a difference maker at one point.

There is a new DC in town. Still have Poe, Drafted Gallimore, Woods is still there, though I think he dropped off some last year. Been hearing some good things about Hill also. Losing McCoy hurts, on paper, as do we really know how he would have done. I do understand the thinking though. However, I feel they can still see what they have.

Neither of them play the same position as McCoy...

Neither are a 3T so likely neither.

Gun to head, you'd have to choose Dareus as he is a more "explosive" player than Harrison. But Dareus has some injury issues of late and again isn't the kind of player McCoy was. But of the two, he's the one closest to McCoy compared to Harrison.

Just wait until the cut downs. At this point in TC, how much work can one get in. Having to go through the protocols and all that. TC will be getting near the end. Just see what you have for now. Let McClay do his thing and be ready to get any players released.

because they hope history repeats and some old washed up player is going to catch lightning in a bottle and come and just be great...its called wishful thinking or star dazed or living in the past

I don’t think Nolan’s scheme calls for the same type of 1T and 3T that Marianelli’s did. I believe he wants both his DTs to 2-gap, not penetrate, to free up the LBs behind them to make plays. So I think the DTs may be more interchangeable and he may want beefier guys like Snacks and Dareus.

You hit on it pretty good, Rod's relied on the 1 gap type set up, as Nolan wants multiple gap set up. Just from what I read. I am far from an expert on that.
Not sure about the beefier guys. Well he does, but also they need to get up field also. Big and can't move won't cut it. From what I understand though, could be wrong. I am curious how Woods will do. Though I had him as possibly being cut. But now since McCoy is gone, maybe not.
