March Sadness

I'll bet when the dust settles the guy who complained had an issue with an ordinance and most likely it had to do with a mandatory setback. 50 feet or so. He wanted to build something and they wouldn't let him

So he gets his panties in a bunch and sees all of these basketball posts that in all probability are in some kind of violation of a setback law and demanded if he wasn't allowed to violate the law, no one else on his block should be.

This is just my opinion but I can easily see this as being the case.

Sounds about right to me and pretty typical of the nonsense that goes on in this country all the time these days. A few idiots complain louder then the rest of the good folks in the world and squash something that has no affect on their lives. Kind of like a trying to ban Christmas trees from public buildings etc.

That was my first thought as well.

Come on. That is a different thing altogether. :D

I imagine if they would have had the basketball hoops on their property behind the sidewalk...they would not have taken them.

I don't know about all places, but when there is sidewalks by the streets they are sometimes viewed as public property instead of private property.

Notice his was property and the placement of the Hoop. He had his yard, then the sidewalk, then a very narrow strip of grass where the hoop was then the curb/street.

This might also explain about him saying that only some of the hoops were taken and not others...if some of the others had the hoops up further onto their property (behind the sidewalks).

Just something to consider.

Well, the article with the video states:

A 2005 state law specifically directs DelDOT to remove things that are in the right of way, which includes the small spat of grass before the curb begins in many neighborhoods. This is done to protect motorists and the people playing sports, according to the law.

I'm guessing that means the grass from the curb to the sidewalk.

It also says one of the guys who complained was 86. He said it wasn't just the kids from the neighborhood but they would also bring in lots of kids from all over and make all kinds of a rukus. I don't necessarily agree with it but who knows if he approached the parents about it or what. I could see how that would get very aggravating.

So kids playing in their front yard causes this old fart the problems? OMG, I've seen it all now.

The dude needs to go to a retirement community instead of living among people.

Sidewalks are typically within the right of way as well.

I would go purchase a portable basketball goal and invite every kid I could find to come and play basketball.

"Get off my lawn! And that lawn, too. And that one. And the street, Get off the street!"

I think most states have that law. I know when I had a sidewalk I was not allowed to put a sign supporting a political campaign in the area between the sidewalk and the street. And it's pretty obvious as to the reason why they don't want basketball goals where the kids have to play in the street.

Not that they went about this the right way, though...

wny not leave the poll, who was she to tell him to go into the house? dont you find a lot wrong with that video IF IF its not altered?

How stupid.

The fact that someone's tax dollars went to this is maddening enough, the fact that the woman was a blatant tramp and lied is even worse.
