Marcus Mosher mock 12/8: Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cinci

Dude is a stud with some serious ball skills, but I’d prefer a better compliment to Diggs.

We need a better athlete with quick feet / hips that can hang with the shifter route runners that seem to kill Diggs.

I think Joseph has the athleticism we just haven’t seen enough of him yet.

I’m starting to think Quinn doesn’t covet height and he wants guys who can play man coverage and run across the field with wideout.

Someone who can keep up with WRs when they run this mid-l to Deep crossing routes.

I think the Dan Quinn cover 3 days are over.

I agree at CB, deep speed is roasting these CBs...DQ needs speed opposite Diggs. Also, the could use a speedy, rangy ballhawk FS to protect this CB group.

I like Sauce, but can't help but to think they can better use that pick after taking KJ last draft.

I don’t hate it.

I think Joseph has some potential but I’m not holding my breath for him.

N. Wright will never be a starter IMO.

We just really need KJ to be that guy. I hope we get to see him down the stretch to get a feel for what kind of player we have.

Just throwing this out there and I could be completely wrong. I wonder if N. Wright was a special teams pick and the Cowboys just didn’t want to publicly say it because they knew they would get blasted for it…

I mean, it’s possible.

Thing I like about Gardner is that he plays the run and is not afraid to do the physical work despite his relatively thin frame.

Brown has had a pretty good season on balance but he is not an ideal starter. He’s a quality 3rd-4th DB IMO.

A 3rd round gunner?

A 3rd round gunner?

Exactly. Or just a special teams ace is what they were hoping for when they drafted him.

Thats just me throwing something out there and I could be wrong but that pick made no sense.

He looked good in preseason though.

Raw piece of clay. His pick may not make sense til 2022 or 2023. Frederick made no sense in first round til it did. If we lose Kearse in FA a couple of 6-4 guys like NW and Izzy might start to make sense.

I think they’ll get Kearse signed long term and he won’t cost a lot.

Kearse is a good fit for what Dan Quinn wants. He’s basically a hybrid safety / linebacker.

What you don’t want is Kearse running backwards and covering guys. That makes me think he won’t have a lot of teams trying to acquire him.

I like the pick. Maybe the Cowboys don’t need a CB with Bossman and others on the roster, but Gardner has the height that Quinn covets.

On the other hand, Jameson Williams, Daniel Faalele, and Jordan Battle would be very tempting to pick up at that spot too.

Please not another first or second round CB who’s going to sit around ST teams most of the year with “ potential “ to break into a Nickle role in week 14 ….the Pokes need help on both lines an edge or interior on D and take your pick on the O line at any of the three positions .

And a RB somewhere in the first 4 rounds who’s not going to get cut or mothballed in the regular season , Zeke is going into yr 7 next season which is ancient for a back and Tony is not a 20 carries a game kind of back . Someone who actually plays can compliment and eventually replace one of those two .

We could definitely use DL or OL help, but Sauce would be our 2nd best CB the moment he was drafted

No doubt the Pokes have hit on some CB over the years the Newman’s Byron Jones heck one could argue Jourdan Lewis & Anthony Brown have given Dallas a lot of mileage but the landscape is littered with Dwayne Goodrich Mario Edwards Mo Claiborne types that do nothing . I hope to see Joseph & Nashon Wright do something at some point contribute other covering kicks and getting tossed for a fight .

With those 2 high picks a second and a 3rd to have to go back in and invest yet again in CB high in the draft ….?

I like Gardner, just depends on how he would compare to a LB, OT or DT available.
