Marcus Spears From The Kickoff Classic

Sounds great. I want to see the Spears I watched at LSU.

I commend him because he is doing something to try and improve his play.

I know Spears isn't the most beloved player on this board but I am hoping we re-sign him before he hits free agency. A 3-4 DE is never going to put up monster numbers and I think he does what is asked of him. Getting him signed also means our starting D-Linemen (Ratliff & Olshansky) are locked up for the next few years.


I also wouldn't mind if Jones brought Hatcher and Spears into his office and told them only one of them is getting a new contract. I'd love to see those guys competing all season long.

The difference between Hatcher and Spears is that Spears has been a solid if unspectacular starter whereas Hatcher has been mostly invisible. There is simply no competition there.

I agree...

That's part of the reason why I think we need to be more urgent in getting Ware's deal done.

We don't want to go into the offseason needing two new DEs.

Spears is in his contract year so effort will not be a question. We should see just how much real ability he has this year.
