For many teams now, most of their defensive linemen are considered part-time players.

There were only 4 defensive ends who totaled over 1,000 snaps last season.

And offensive tackle?

36.

Ok but why trade up so far for a part timer? It's like giving up 2 players for 1/2 or 1/4 of one....

Because he was the best "part-timer" for the position.

You weren't going to find a better weakside DE at that point of the draft.

Again, all these fast-past offenses are forcing defenses to do a lot of personnel swapping during a game to keep everyone fresh. And rushing the passer down after down is reported to be one of the more strenuous activities on the football field.

Seattle just gave what? 32 mill for a guy (Bennett) who only played 600 snaps last season.

It's the direction the league is going... like it or don't like it.

Well that's interesting, I did not know that...

The big question that can't be answered for quite a while is was he worth it. We really weren't sure about ware for quite a while either, a lot of people kept comparing him to Merriman. If he turns into a solid pass rusher for us I'll be happy. If he turns into a Kavika Pittman, Shante Carver, or Ebenezer Ekuban then just add him to the list. One thing I like about him is once in the backfield he seems to be able to twist and redirect quickly to get to the ball. That is a big advantage against players like Lesean McCoy. Another thing I saw that reminded me of Ware is he was very good at sniffing out the screen pass.

In the context of people passing judgements on him today, now until the middle of the upcoming season is quite a while.

It's my understanding they didn't like Ford. They thought he was more a 3-4 OLB. That he couldn't get any bigger to play full time DE so would be a nickel player only.

I believe their top pass rushing DEs was overall: Clowney, Barr, Lawrence.

Lawrence was a much much better run defender in college than Ford.

I never doubted Ware. I thought he was a slam dunk plug and play elite pass rusher in the NFL.

You've gone over the line mentioning Kavika Pittman. Surely we have rules here against that.

Agreed they were positions of need, but we need much more than that. We had Ware and Hatcher there last year and still sucked on defense. We need all the help we can get. Hopefully guys like Claiborne, Wilcox and Carter step up their game.

I do think that with all the injuries that we switched from a 3-4 to a 4-3 as we'll. Carter for sure should play better a 2nd year into the system. Wilcox should be better mentally. Who can say about Claiborne. Defense should be better if we can avoid injuries. If the offense is better that too will help the defense.

Plus there are a couple more draft picks headed the Cowboys' way today... :)

We got a guy we liked in the 1st for a 2 and a 3. So we came out of the first three rounds with two guys with first round grades.

That is far better than having a 1, 2, and 3 graded guys IMO. If our board is similar to last year this means he was maybe one of 20 guys with a first round grade.

This is classic draft to your board strategy.

Yeah but what happens when the injuries start piling up again? That's the problem we don't have any depth and Who replaces Lawrence if he goes down? We are not in a position to give away draft picks when we have so many holes to fill.

If Lawrence had a first rd grade I would've rathered them draft him at 16 if I knew they were gonna just give away a 3rd rd pick like that. You could've drafted a guard in the 3rd rd instead of taking Martin and moving him to guard. o-line was not a pick we needed in the 1st rd.

It was painful for me too.

Not it's time to go get that WILL and a 1 tech. Come on down Kevin Pierre-Louis and Justin Ellis. I would make some more trades to ensure we get those two guys.

Would rather have Ellis and Telvin Smith.
