Marinelli to take over as DC

Just saw this

@calexmendez: Cowboys have just made the Linehan hire announcement, plus the demotion of Monte Kiffin and the promotion of Rod Marinelli.

@KavnerDC: Whoa. Cowboys make move of Linehan as passing game coordinator/play caller official... Also announce Callahan will be teams OC/Oline coach.

@RainerSabinDMN: #Cowboys also announce that Rod Marinelli is the new defensive coordinator and Monte Kiffin will be the assistant head coach/defense.

You know what they say.. the more hands in the pot, the better..

..right?

Sigh..

1) This just in:
- Dallas makes coaching change....Cowboyzone complains
- Dallas makes NO coaching changes....Cowboyzonbe complains
(story at 11)
2) Kiffin gets a demotional promotion
3) to the poster that said Kiffin was staying at a different hotel: I assume because it was wheelchair accessible?
4) making this move makes JJ look like the bestus GM/owner in the world (to him)
- he keeps Marinelli happy by keeping his bra Kiffin on board
- the defense, if they can improve slightly (almost a certainty, no team is dead-last in consecutive years, right?) will make JJ look like a genius for making the "moves"
5) I noticed that when Jones sneezes, that bulge in the back of Garrett's shirt seems to shift around a lot more than usual

The fact that people are complaining about this is mind-numbing. RM is a vast improvement over Kiffin, but Rod is also extremely loyal. I could see Rod quitting if the Cowboys fired Kiffin. So, give Kiffin a throwaway title and give the reigns to Rod.

I'm not as crazy about Callahan keeping the "OC" title, but assuming (big assumption) that Linehan has complete control over plays, I'm happy.

I like the Marinelli move, but the real problem on defense was personnel. We need more horses on the D Line.

We shall see how the Offense changes with this move. I would like to see more creativity, ie, finding ways to get Dez the ball when teams try to take him away. A fresh mind and set of eyes can't hurt.

Well heck we kept David Arlin and Kevin oglatree around for years without much of a return in value..... Don't see why we can't hang on to monte for a few.
I don't see much to complain about with these moves frankly. Every one was calling for kiffins head and jerry delivered in his own special way.
The real story of this offseason will be told with cuts, draft picks, cap management and FA or lack of them.
Stay tuned people

demoting people in a company never works well in the long run
this could be some of the worst coaching decisions in a long time.
if you believe kiffin is on a higher platform than last year Jerry has swindled you too
mind blowing exec work by the gm

And dont forget Scott Lenihan REALLY? What did this great savior ever do? Brilliant GM work right there.

Can the Jason era please roll off a cliff already

I liked what i saw from Marinelli last year. Players off the street and duct tapeing
the best he could. Give us a healthy season and lets see.
Lineham I think he will help our passing game. Moving Dez around.
2 ok moves.

He's such a good clapper though.
I mean- the technique is perfect.
Two hands- working in unison...
Wow. I gape in awe of it.

He takes the speaker on the headset down and then spits. That is more impressive.

I just thought of something. Perhaps demoting Monte Kiffin will allow him to give Garrett more specific one-on-one tutoring on his continuing quest to complete his head coach training.

This could really work out for us.

I think Marinelli will be an improvement over Kiffin

I don't. If Marinelli is up in the both...he won't be on the sidelines to rally the troops. Do you really think the players are gonna get up for Kiffin? A question a coach that was 0-16 during a season to be calling shots.

I think Marinelli will be an improvement over Kiffin

It will be a negligible impact unless there is a serious commitment to improving the defensive talent AND we nail it in our effort.

But I seriously doubt this brain trust is smart enough to look at the problem, diagnose it and fix it appropriately.
