Marinelli's theory is interesting

That sounds a like what Jimmy and Dave Wannstedt did in the 90s,,, have a deep DL rotation and use them.

No matter what anyone thinks we do not have the deep line. The teams of the 90s had great players and great depth, we have neither. We don't even know who is a starter at one DT spot and the other has a guy coming of major surgery. It's nice to always dream about a 7th round pick or a McClain but there is a reason that guy was drafted in the 7th round or the other was available in free agency and barely played with his original team.

I seriously doubt anybody thinks we have a deep DL this year, they were talking about Marinelli's defensive approach.

In this love fest with marinelli I do want to point out that not one of out DL would be starting in Seattle

When Seattle brings "waves of DL " they don't mean Hayden and selvie
They rotate talented guys

I wouldn't consider 7 sacks on a depleted DL by Selvie as "Not Talented." Especially considering it was his first season with us. Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril lead the Seahawks respectively at 8 sacks each. We also had a lot of guy injured, which left a lot of player like Selvie, playing too many downs. Imagine if they're not all winded on 3rd down?

What about the fact that he put down Kiffin and resulted in the demotion of a man that trained him, a man that taught him how to coach professional football? Why is Marinelli getting good press, and Kiffin bad press? Remember Kiffin INVENTED THE TAMPA 2. Kiffin was the architect of one of the best defenses to play the game. EVER.

Because Marinelli is a DL coach and the focus of the offseason has been the DL. Schematically everyone has written in the press there won't be much change from Kiffin.

I wouldn't say he's better in his current state. I believe Spencer, if healthy can easily come back and be just as viable as Ware. Anyone that has watched Spencer and Ware work on this team over the years will tell you, he was always a step behind Ware. That's still a fine lineman. Ware is a HOF talent. Not that I think we've suddenly fixed our defense. I'm just saying, I don't see how we can't be excited about the depth we have, considering where we left off last season. It will still take a few years to get where we want. I believe we've a roster that is better than last years. That's my opinion. Add to the fact that we've an even better O Line to run the ball thru, you're reducing the amount of time your D is on the field. ALSO what Seahawks do to keep their D fresh. We were 26th in time of possession last year, which is a large reason why it didn't matter that we scored 28ppg. Our battered defense stayed on the field too much.

{Edit}: In hindsight, that's a coaching fail. Garrett needs to learn to see the big picture of the game and not just the scoreboard in front of him.

you are making some solid points here but let's discuss a few things to clarify my position.
1. We've never seen Spencer at all without Ware. Not sure how good he really is when asked to carry the load of primary pass rusher.
2. At times over the past 3 seasons when healthy Spencer has approached or even surpassed Ware for stretches but with Ware ont he field drawing attention as stated above.
3. I do believe a healthy Spencer would surpass Ware at some point. It's basic age versus peak in there somewhere.
4. Ware is ready to go right now for Denver though and Spencer will likely start on PUP for 6 weeks.
5. After Spencer the next most coveted player was a street free agent this time last year that wasn't a lock for a roster spot for any NFL team.

Marinelli is running different coverages but he isn't gonna tell anyone about that specifically because it's more useful to the opponents than anyone else.
He did allude to Seattle Coverages which are a fairly even mix of cover 2, cover 3 and cover 1 varied by opponent and game plan.
Carr and Claiborne are cover 1 guys who with help inside from Backers and up top from safeties can and will make plays on the ball.

The bodies are wholly different at DL. It's what will get discussed until the real games start.

In the walk through practice (2nd day) the CB ran the bail technique.

That's what they ran a majority of the time last year: Cover 3. The only time they played Cover 1 (man) that I saw, was against Philly. They rarely played Cover 2 or Tampa 2.

Okay, that's understandable. However, it's not as if he'd have to be the "primary" pass rusher. If you're rotating linemen consistently ala "90's Cowboys" or "Seahawks", you're just looking for fresh legs and consistent pressure. Keep in mind,DE's also have to defend the run and, that is where Anthony Spencer has always excelled over others. He's been one of the best run defenders in the league for years with 158 solo tackles from 2010-2012. Something that a LE is more entitled to do. At the RE position, you're able to pin your ears back and gets sacks more because you're attacking the blindside of a QB (respectively). In retrospect, they're much different positions on the field. Much like the difference between LT and RT. LT's are much more coveted. As for the walk on comment, I'm not sure what you're getting at there. The entire starting line aside from D Ware (who played injured) were injured for the Cowboys. Including their #2 players eventually. Hopefully with added depth and players that aren't forced to play extra long minutes, we will see an improvement.
