Mario is one of those type players (Wide Receivers) that we'll never get because Jerry doesn't like drafting them since they can't contribute immediately. And apparently, immediately is all that matters. Forget about the rest of the players entire career.

steve smith has been nothing more then a 3rd down reciever for the giants. i watch every game of theirs.

very reliable possesion reciever but we made him look lik an all pro. he is not as good as he looked tonight.

the giants were worried bout having to use him on the outside wish is why they drafted hakeem nicks.

mario had a solid camp but neither wr looked this good all preseason or even last week

our secondary if anything made them look better then they really are.

for us to get beat on by lower level wr, none of which can command double coverage really says something about us

hopefully we get these issues corrected

I came to the boards today just to see what Cowboys fans were saying, and I had no intention of posting but I saw this and couldn't help myself.

This is by far one of the more idiotic posts on the board. For someone that claims he "watch all the games of theirs", I'm amazed at how wrong you could be.

First of all, Steve Smith has been someone that Eli Manning thinks incredibly highly of. As does Jerry Reese. Tom Coughlin doesn't think highly or lowly of anyone, they're all just cogs in the wheel to him. Steve Smith is not going to be the most physically dominant wideout in the NFL, but he's gonna play hard and he's gonna be where you need him. He's got fantastic hands and incredible moves (just ask Orlando Scandrick). You guys should be begging to have a player like Steve Smith on your team. He keeps his mouth shut, loves the game, and loves to learn.

And the notion of we drafted Nicks because we were desperate to replace Smith? That's just stupid. Did we draft Mathias Kiwanuka in the first round because we thought Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, and Justin Tuck were "lower level" defensive ends? We drafted Nicks because he is a good player, and we needed depth at our WR spot. Steve Smith has been phenominal. If you're watching every Giants game and think Steve Smith is a "lower level" wr, then you're doing it wrong. If you don't have respect for your oponents, you just look like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

Second of all, It's a mistake on the part of football fans these days to think that things are even CAPABLE of going perfectly. The play-calling was decent and you had some fun schemes that I was very impressed with. That one near the goal line where you had the TE roll back behind romo, and then barber took the handoff like a fullback? Wow, that was genius. I'm pretty sure that play netted you an Barber touchdown. Also splitting Martellus Bennett out wide so our cornerback Terrell Thomas had to tackle him? Great play.

This game COULD have gone very differently. We drop one of those INTS, you break a long touchdown, and you guys would be cheering at how your team toughed out a hard win, and you're going all the way to the Superbowl. blah blah blah, all fans do it.

This is not an attempt to whitewash our secondary's play today. It was abysmal. It's as cut and dry as that.

That being said I don't know how one cannot come away impressed with Mario Manningham tonight, especially in YAC.

Dude looks like a player

He looked great, but our defense tends to make average players look like all pros sometimes. Missed tackles and terrible coverage.

These are the 2nd-3rd round talent WR's that Jerry always dismisses as not being able to make an immediate impact. Why we never draft one is beyond me.

I saw him a lot at UofM...For me, it was always clear he'd be a receiver in the NFL...He was explosive and had great hands...I believe I went on about it too when he fell to the 3rd round.

But it wasn't simply his 40 times that saw his stock drop...Two other factors...One was the weed issue (He failed two tests at UofM) and then lied about it (Big deal, IMHO)...Two, he got a 6 on the wonderlic.

Still, it's never an encouraging sign to not only see two WRs from an opponent light you up in the same game but that they'd be backups rather than the key starters

We've talked about this lack of WR depth for a few years now but it seems like one opponent to the next ends up having backup WRs look stellar against Dallas...So is it just that Dallas' secondary stinks or is the passing game not producing and hiding a deficiency in a different area than WR?

Momentum continues to build for me that the problem wasn't the WRs, TO etc. but perhaps our tunnel visioned QB

I like Manningham, wanted us to draft him..... Here's a quick list of WRz I wanted us to draft over the last 5 or 6 years, WRZ we actually had a chance to get....

Harvin, Nicks, Juaquin Iglesias this year, think we could have got one of them
Sweed, Delvin Thomas, Manningham and Desean jackson last year....
Sidney Rice in 07----Chad Jackson in 06---

I would love to have a young WR prospect drafted high.....
Jerry doesn't believe in drafting wr high in the draft because there's too much of a bust factor with them.

He'd rather pick one up that's a cancer that killed the locker room or overpay in draft picks for one.

Steve Smith ain't that bad either.

Remember, the Cowboys wanted him, but the Giants snatched him before we had a chance.

Sure are alot of backhanded compliments to the Giants WRs.

Funny how giving credit to the other team's players...PERIOD, is
hard for some fans to do.

Bottom line, Jerrah the GM needs to look at the Giants Jerry (Reese), to
see how to run a draft.
I don't know if I've ever seen a GM have a better ability to pick the
right players for their system, than Reese.

The guy has been phenomenal during his term w/ the Giants.
I shudder to think what Hakeem Nicks, Simtim, & Bardem will look like in a coupla years.

You are right. Last year he was lost but I agree, he looks pretty damn good.

He has always been a playmaker, he could have probably used an extra year in school, but he saw the 3-9 disaster coming a mile away and got paid while the getting was good.

I watch every game of theirs as well and I don't view Smith a 3rd down receiver in the least. I see a guy getting better and better each passing week and it is getting more nad more frustrating.

I was upset that we didn't get him and especially that the Giants got him.

I watched the guy at that school up north and it was obvious he could play.
