Yes I said it. I just think Marion runs harder and slips tackles better and is stronger than Julius is right now. I hated seeing JJ stacked up for loss and or no gain yesterday. Marion to me just seems the better all around RB at this point in the year. He catches better and sure as heck blocks better.

Julius does bring us that home run threat but let us not remember that Barber to isnt some old mare. The kid can hit another gear when the hole is open. Barber just seems more polished and does more w/ the ball when given the opportunity. I know he has a slight tendancy to boggle the ball but so did Jones last game.

Thoughts? And - NO - you cant attack me in this thread or I will have Hostile and Juke both ban you. Thats a double ban. Thats nothing to mess with. ;)

I think that the high ankle injury is impacting JJ's performance.

I have to give it another year before I can reach a personal conclusion

Barber and Jones seem to have different strengths. Julius accelerates through holes nicely and has some great cuts. Barber, at this time, seems significantly better at making yardage after contact. Barber gets lower and hits traffic with more authority. Jones looks a lot bigger than he really is. They listed him at 205 yesterday during game and it shows. Most of Jones' weights seems to be in upper body and arms. His leg strength is not what it needs to be to break tackles. Emmitt could leg press 1000 lbs.

Barber is really impressing me making yards after contact. He keeps the legs moving and moves the pile. Jones is not moving the pile nearly as much at this point. So far this season, I feel that Jones has done ok not making a lot of negative runs as Parcells has asked, but he isn't making the 0 or 1 yard runs into 2 and 3 yard runs like Barber is.

At 2nd and short or 3rd and 1 I'm starting to dislike seeing Jones back there as he is being brought down almost every time on initial contact, unlike Barber who is sometimes making a few yards out of nothing. Don't get me wrong, I really like Jones and think he is still less than 100% but Barber has out played him in short yardage and red zone by a significant margin and that is why the coaches are putting Barber out there in those roles!

I am starting to expect that in the future you will truly see a lot of split repititions between our 2 (and probably 3 when Thomspson is more seasoned) running backs. Neither "starter" seem big enough, or strong enough to carry an entire load every game. This is similar all around the league.

Yes our run blocking has been pretty bad this year, but it's the same for both backs.

its a tough question. Without a good line to run behind, I would say your right, Barber is better at the tough yards then JJ. But with a line that will allow runners to run to the second level before contact is made, JJ will blow Barber away. So if we are gunna keep the crappy line we have, lets trade Jones, and get some beef. Otherwise build an all pro line like 92-95 boys and turn JJ and Barber loose. Can you imagine Barber hitting safties first instead of Linemen or backers. Man, I would not want to be John Lynch or Ronde Barber trying to stop MBIII with a full head of steam. Then again just trying to touch JJ when hes on and dancing is a challenge all in itself.

I say build a line and let em loose on the NFL.

I personally think Barber is the better RB this year. No question about it. Runs with much more authority. Does indeed break tackles and gives terrific second effort, never giving up negative yardage. Better blocker in pass protection, and is more of a threat in the passing game.

To me, Barber is the better all around RB.

He (Barber) puts the ball on the carpet too much for my liking. We've been lucky to get so many of them back.

I'm not buying the O-line excuse. Good backs make average O-lines look really good. I am very concerned about JJ. JJ does one thing well, and thats running the draw. I bet most 90% of his 10+ yard runs have come off of the draw play. He seems like a much slower version of last years model. I am not sold on JJ as our future.

Just look at Bary Sanders. He never had the luck to play behind a good OL. But boy could he run!

yep, JJ looked like garbage for like 99% of the day. He is always blown back on blocks and cant hold a block worth a damn. Barber on the other hand is a great blocker who really sticks the blitzer back. Plus he runs hard, and doesnt fall down immediately like JJ. JJ still needs to add like 15 lbs if he is ever gonna be a real back.

Okay, this is really going down a very slippy slope seeing as the guy has only played a few games and of course JJ aint no wiley vet either.

It seems like Barber is a better runner between the tackles, hence a better goaline runner.

Also, I really felt Barber should have gotten the majority of the carries during the game last night. The reason I say that, one of Jones' weaknesses is his catching ability. Someone here mentioned that Jones looked akward when he would get the ball because Bledsoe was throwing him bad passes. I disagree, when Jones catches the ball, it does not look very natural, but when guys like Barber and say.....Ritchie Anderson (I know you guys dont, but I miss that dude), it looks like it is just effortless.

I really feel that Barber would have taken those catches Jones got for more yardage because it is so natural for him.

Jones is superior in the Big run, outside threat and not a bad runner between the tackles.

If you go solely on this year, Barber deserves the nod and especially against a team that blitzes alot, Barber would really give them problems.

On that note, Nebraska is killing Colorado. I cant remember, but if Colorado loses, do they still go to the B12C?

I agree. Julius is toe-dipping this year, and I don't like it.

Jones could have had like 2 huge gains last game Vs the Broncos but his balance wasnt good enough and he rather sliped or let a whimpy tackle bring him down. I dont know if that is because of the ankle but last year I remeber him making way better cuts(giants game) and he had way more balance..Was it just becuause we saw him against ****ty D's last year or is it that he is not recovered??

I hope no one takes offense to this but Jones has what I refer to as a prison build. He is all upper body and has chicken legs. When I worked in the prison we would have these inmates that could bench press a house but thier legs looked like twigs. JJ needs to work on his legs this off season IMO.
