You guys are doing with MB exactly what we did with JJ last year. Interesting, isn't it?

No. Noone here is comparing Barber to Dorsett or Emmitt Smith. All we're saying is that Barber is performing the best at RB this year. That's all that matters. I could care less which one it is. Just play the guy that is more effective. And that guy appears tro be MB3.

Last week it was JJ. This week it was MB. BP appears to go with who has the hot hand.

barber is the tougher back and better receiver - but julius is easily the more explosive of the two. "thunder and lightning" - if the cowboys ever assemble a good O-line (which they will) they will be one of the most dynamic running teams in all of football. i like the quandry they will be facing. most teams will wish they had such decisions to make.

next year we will average around 36, 37 minutes TOP per game. and that's established dominance. powerball, babeeeeeee.

Try to be objective, no matter your preconcieved preference.

Barber looks faster and gets more yards more often.

When we drafted Barber I wont forget what it said on his scout report. Said he has what it takes to be a solid starting RB in the NFL. With the problems the OL has had this year Barber has been very good. He averaged over 5 yards a carry today.

My thinking is when we improve the OL we could have something special in Barber. He has uhhh...IT I guess.

I also think if it is decided next year he is our starter he can go into games thinking as a starter which will help him even more.

Dynamic running teams in football?
Are you kidding?

Our stable of running backs is in the lower half of the league -- probably the botton 10.

MBIII is a complementary back with well-rounded skills, but the fact is he is playing the best of any of our RB isn't a good thing. It means we have mediocre talent at the position -- because Jones has been so disappointing this year.

I have said all year that MBIII runs harder than JJ. That is why we should have given him the ball on 3rd and 1 last week. He gets the tough yards.

I disagree with you on Barber. I think when our OL is improved next year there will be quite a few teams kicking themselves and askin how they passed on Barber.

Give Barber next year and I bet he runs for 1000-1200 yards.

julius just isn't the same back he was last year, but the o-line is pathetic. marion barber has more power than julius and when marion barber gets hit at the line of scrimage he can pick up 2-3 more yards after contact, but if we had at least a decent o-line julius would have more holes and he is great at making guys miss in the open field, but the fact is our o-line sucks and julius never has holes to go anywhere except backwards.

anyway great win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen nothing to think that Barber doesn't have a bright future. He could very well be a player like Domanick Davis. I agree I think he has 1200 yard talent. Who knows with JJ (injury, added weight, added pressure) maybe all of the above. All I know is if Parcells likes a back Jerry better move heaven and earth to get them i.e. Rudi Johnson, Larry Johnson and now with Marion Barber.

I say next year JJ drops 15 pounds. Let him play at his natural weight. He gained the weight bc we werent sure what we had behind him. Now we know we got a solid tough runner and a great reciever/blocker

then give them each 15 carries each.

JJ at last years weight could take 15 a game.
HE just looks unnatural this bulky

JJ would be jukey JJ again

Thunder and lightning next year

Am I alone in thinking that JJ's ankle continues to (silently) be a problem? Something tells me that Julius has been playing in pain and not uttering a word, like a good soldier. Yes, the OL has often been crummy in front of him, but I see a half-step slower RB this year as compared to last, and I think it's the ankle and not the added weight.

No Sir you are not alone in your thinking.......a high ankle sprain takes a long while to heal.

I have slowly begun to believe in MBIII. I still think JJ isn't playing at 100 percent and is playing scared (like he might get hurt on each and every play). Props to MBIII for todays performance. It's nice to have 2 horses in the stable, regardless of who's better than the other. When have we been able to say that in awhile?

I am not ready to shut the door on old Julius Jones yet. Dude could be hurt or maybe Parcells' mental games have gotten to him.

His catching ability offsets Julius Jones' big play potential

Right now you gotta roll with Barber.

I have been on the marion barber bandwagon since day one. Don't know why more people haven't criticized Parcells for playing Julius as much as he has. I think everyone still clings on to their #22/#21 comparisons from last year. Bottomline, Barber gets the job done, Julius doesn't.

i hate say it but im starting to follow along with your thoughts. Julius just doesnt look like the same runner nah-mean?

Are YOU kidding? Do you honestly think many other backs in this league could do much better running behind this offensive line? Our stable of backs is not in the lower half of the league, our line is. We started a rookie ORT, then we lost our Pro-bowl OLT for the season, and our starting ORG & Center have had to deal with nagging injuries.
JJ is playing hurt, so of course he's not playing up to expectations--could you?
Barber is a flat out playa! He made over half of his yards on his own.

Wait until we get all of our Oline healthy, and draft a franchise OLT next year. All of a sudden, you will be the first to say, "see, I told you JJ just needed to get healthy & run behind a decent line".

 Amazing!

Good post Cogan. I echo your sentiments, particularly on what can be done behind the quality of play our O-line has been putting out.

Incidentally, another potential "playing hurt but too much pride to admit it" guy might very well be Rivera. Who knows how much that back is still affecting him? With everything we've heard about his character and work ethic, he's the type that would not use it an excuse, at least publicly.

Unfortunately JJ doesn't run like he did last year. Lucky for us we drafted MBIII. You are right he runs like a vet.

I just feel bad for JJ right now because if he doesnt step it up a little more he might just be knocked out the starting job.
