Have you noticed that two or three years ago, Marion Barber would deliver a wicked face mask to any tackler who dared to try and take him down. I have not seen that in more than a year. Is that a sign of his lost mojo? I think so!!!

Just posted this in another Barber thread but it applies to this thread as well.

Part of what I think people don't see anymore is Barber running people over as often as he used to.

Honestly I think that can be attributed to people knowing now exactly how not to try to tackle Barber. Occasionally we see someone make a mistake and get plowed over, but I think on the whole it has less to do with Barber and more to do with people knowing the way in which you shouldn't try to tackle him.

As has been mentioned, his average is more than respectable.

They implemented the Marion Barber rule which took away his stiff arm to the facemask. It has made him less aggressive or maybe getting his big contract has affected him like it does soo many others.

I can sense an early trend for stupid thread topics heading into the NFCE division championship game this week.

I'm putting the over/under on threads about Marion Barber losing his mojo--or some variation of that same theme, at 8.

All I know is that the dude has been averaging 3.8 ypc since he returned from that early season injury.

If that were true, or for that matter, enforced, then they missed a flag on AP tonight.

Yep, almost every time he gets outside the defender goes low and Barber goes flying sideways. He has yet to figure out how to make someone miss or hurdle the defender. Pretty much the same result anytime he is sideways. However when he is facing the defender he is still a force.

His last five haven't been very good at all though. 2.6 avg. @ Giants, 3.4 avg. @ Chargers, 3.6 avg. @ Saints, and 3.7 avg. @ Commanders.

I'll say around 5. It's pretty pathetic.

It's funny....or sad....every week, my old boss and I predict stats for what is going to happen....it's always the same....MBIII with more carries and less yards than JF. Until our last drive this past yesterday it was holding true....again.

He lacks confidence and the ability to find a hole. Hesitates, then runs into the
line. Last night was on him. Marion had a chance one on one with Landry (Commanders safety) as a running back looking for 4 inches you can not ask for a better chance and ran away from him and buried himself in the line. This is not only a goal line issue - simply he has not been the same running back this season.

Last night he had a draw where there was no one in the middle he broke through the line and instead of sprinting down the center of the field, he broke right and stumbled in front of a safety. He picked up 8 yards because no one touched him- it should have been at least a 20 yard pick up.

It's play off time and decisions need to be made. I do not want to see Marion in another short yardage situation and Choice and Felix simply have a better feel for it.

And one more thing- could these RBs not wear long sleeves just because it's cold?! Nothing is more sure to cause a fumble than long sleeves and cold footballs !!

I won't pretend I haven't noticed it like some of you are doing. ;)

He hasn't been the Barbarian at all this year. Where did those ridiculous yards after contact go? He used to lead the league in this category, but no way he still does.

Remember when he'd run every single rush attempt like it was his last? I saw him bust into the open field last night on a 10+ yard carry... and dive to the ground at the feet of a defender. The Barbarian would've absolutely punished that guy.

Either he's still not 100%, or he's consciously scaled his aggressiveness back some. Or maybe he's just lost a step.

But don't tell me this is the same exact guy who defenses loathed facing back in '07.

Yeah, it's interesting to go back and watch old youtube videos of him from '07. He's definitely not the same player as he was back then. Those youtube videos were fun to watch though because he was something else back then.

I couldn't have said it any better. One other possibility is he's not as rested as he used to be, so he doesn't have the energy to go all out every play like he used to. Not saying he's weak, because he's obviously not. He's the only player who I consistently see has a collision with others, and is always the first one up jumping up and down energized.

#1 He's not being used the way he was at that point a few years ago. He is not the closer anymore. (a mistake IMO).

#2 He is learning what too many running backs learn, sometimes too late, on how to avoid taking direct hits to lengthen his career. As Deion would say, it's a good business decision.

#3 He has two other backs that are getting carries and that effects how you are engaged in the game.

If the Cowboys would go to a heavy dose of FJ early, then mix in some Choice with Felix in the second and third Qtr and then use Barber the way he is most effective, you might see more of those types of runs. Though like I said in point #2, I think these are business decisions.
